An estimated 900 students turned out for this weekend’s 10th annual D-Now retreat.

Students from churches around the county attended the discipleship event.

“It was really successful,” said William Worley, student minister at First Baptist.

Worley said students participated in several activities, including worship and message as well as various mission projects.

“A lot of churches did activities throughout the community,” he said. “Our church took cookies to some widows in the community.”

Worley said that the weekend’s theme was “Unify.”

“We focused on Galatians 3:26-28,” he said.

The verses say, “So in Christ Jesus you are all children of God through faith for all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.”

Worley said that the weekend kicked off Friday night at Andalusia High School with worship, followed by a message from Birmingham’s Ryan Allen, who is 22.

“After the session, the kids went back to their host homes,” Worley said. “They had small group sessions led by college leaders.”

On Saturday morning there was a video prepared by Allen and then another small group session before lunch.

After lunch is when the students worked on mission projects before having supper at Southside Baptist Church.

On Saturday night students gathered back at AHS for another message from Allen.
