County board of education makes personnel changes

The Covington County Board of Education on Tuesday night made personnel changes, approved a budget amendment and purchased five new buses.

The board OK’d the purchase of five new 72-passenger buses for $75,104.01.

It also approved the first budget amendment which factored in some grants and carryover funds in which totals were not available when the board approved its budget for this fiscal year.

In personnel issues, the board voted to:

  • Accept the resignation of Bradley Park Rhodes, general social science teacher and coach at Florala High School, effective May 26, 2017;
  • Approve the hire of Scott Leon Mason as general social science teacher and coach at Florala High School, effective at the beginning of next school year;
  • Accept the resignation of James Joseph Wise III, social science teacher and coach at Red Level High School, effective May 26, 2017;
  • Accept the retirement resignation of Karen F. McGlaun, as business and career tech teacher at Straughn High School. McGlaun has been a teacher for some 25 years.
  • Accept the retirement resignation of Voncile Holland, bus driver at Straughn High School, effective June 1, 2017.
  • Accept the retirement resignation of Debbie F. Daughtry, as secretary at Straughn High School effective July 1, 2017. Daughtry has been in that position for some 33 years.
  • Hire Stephanie Bryan as counselor at Straughn High School, effective at the beginning of next school year.
