Fire fighters respond to 1,000+ incidents

Covington County fire departments responded to more than 1,000 incidents during the first half of 2017.

Brandon Holland with the Covington County Fire Fighters Association provided the Star-News with totals.

Firefighters responded to 89 natural vegetation fires; 66 structure fires; 21 vehicle or equipment fires; and 32 other fires.

There were 397 EMS assists.

Fire fighters have responded to 171 motor vehicle accidents, with nine extrications, 71 LifeFlight or standby calls, fire alarm 56 and 130 other calls of service.

February was the busiest month with 199 total incidents and January was the least busiest at 151 incidents.

There are 21 fire departments in the county –

Andalusia, River Falls, Hopewell, Red Level, Gantt, Heath, Wing, Babbie, Red Oak, , Onycha, Rose Hill, Opp , Florala. Antioch, Libertyville, Dixie, Lockhart, Loango, Union Grove, Buck Creek and Sanford.
