Andalusia City Schools will open a third Pre-K class, hopefully by Sept. 1, Superintendent Ted Watson told board members Monday night.

Watson said the system recently received an additional $120,000 in Pre-K funding, including $20,000 to prepare a classroom, and $100,000 for a teacher and a paraprofessional.

District Administrator Sonja Hines said she is working to hire a certified Pre-K teacher, and then the system will move forward with notifying parents about the class. Last spring, the system accepted applications or the Pre-K spots, then selected students for the existing two classes in a lottery. Those applications will be used to select the new class, she said.

In other business, the board:

  • Accepted the resignation of Tom Locklier, route bus driver.
  • Hired Johnny Mosley, route bus driver.
  • Hired Stephanie Davis as a paraprofessional.
  • Granted a leave of absence to Donna Neal, AES building service worker.
