The Andalusia Bulldogs closed out the regular season with a 34-7 victory over the Straughn Tigers Friday night in Straughn.

Straughn opened up the game with the ball and picked up a quick first down off a 16-yard run from Brandon Hudson.

Andalusia’s defense came up big and forced a punt from the Tigers.

Ethan Wilson connected with R.J. Drish for a Bulldog first down on Andalusia’s first offensive play.

A few plays later, Wilson found Grant Holley on a screen pass for an 11-yard touchdown. Reese Burkhardt’s extra point gave the Bulldogs a 7-0 lead with 6:16 left in the opening quarter.

The Bulldog defense came up with another stop and forced another punt from the Tigers.

Andalusia drove down the field behind a couple of passes from Wilson to Sebaskin Stallworth.

Holley then got into the end zone for the second time on a 2-yard pass from Wilson.

The extra point just missed left, leaving Andalusia on top 13-0 with 1:31 left in the first quarter.

Andalusia’s defense forced another punt after Undre Johnson batted away a pass on third down.

One play later, B.J. Anderson hit pay dirt as he torched the Straughn secondary for a 65-yard touchdown off a pass from Wilson.

The Bulldog defense quickly gave the offense the ball back when Drexter Lee came up with an interception.

Anderson burnt the Tiger secondary for the second-straight time on a 50-yard catch before Wilson capped off the drive with a 9-yard touchdown.

With 9:31 left before halftime, the Bulldogs were on top 27-0.

Hudson picked up the Tigers’ second first down of the game on the next Straughn drive, but the Andalusia defense then forced a turnover on down.

Andalusia got the ball back with 4:21 left in the second quarter and used much of what was left on the clock before finishing the drive with a score.

Drish got a big first down catch to start the series and then a strong run from Josh Gurley had the Bulldogs deep in Straughn territory.

Wilson then hit Anderson on a quick slant for a 3-yard score to put Andalusia on top 34-0 with 22.7 seconds left before halftime.

The score remained 34-0 until late in the fourth quarter when Scott Roney connected with Cade Courson on a 10-yard touchdown to make it 34-7 with five minutes left in the contest.

“Our kids came out and did exactly what we asked them to do tonight,” Andalusia head coach Trent Taylor said. “They came out and played hard and took care of business. Now, we get ready for playoffs next week. Next week it hits another level.”

Straughn head coach John Higgins said there wasn’t much they could down against the Bulldogs.

“We were just plan outmanned,” Higgins said. “We got beat by a better team. Right now, we are just so young, but we are going to get better. Every year from here on, we are going to be better than we were the year before. We have to get back in the weight room and start doing the things that winning programs do.”

Andalusia will host Childersburg next Friday for the first round of the Class 4A state playoffs.
