Obama depiction poses questions

Published Friday, August 7, 2009

Recently, an image of President Obama depicted as Heath Ledger’s Joker character from “The Dark Knight” has been posted around Los Angeles and several other cities. The image, which shows Obama covered in white face paint, also includes the word “socialism” in small letters below the portrait. It could be seen as a satire of the “Hope” poster from Obama’s campaign.

Some have said the poster is racist, because it depicts Obama as wearing “white face” makeup, sort of like a reversal of the old black-faced white minstrel (which by the way, I do think was racist). But to make that accusation about this poster is ridiculous — it’s Obama as Heath Ledger’s Joker character, who just happened to have his face painted white in “The Dark Knight.”

Yet, even in the midst of this obvious evidence, there are still those who say the poster is racist because those who have not seen the movie before will interpret it as a “white faced” caricature. This is scary stuff, people. Does this mean now that any satire will be deemed unacceptable as long as a single person somewhere finds something offensive by it?

I remember, relatively early in the 2008 campaign, reading an article about a comedian who said that it was hard to make fun of then-candidate Barack Obama. He said the senator was too well spoken, intelligent and gentlemanly, and made few gaffes that would lead to comedy.

I remember laughing to myself and saying, “Yeah, right. Comedians aren’t making fun of the guy because they’re afraid they’ll be called racists.”

There is no limit to the amount of ways you can make fun of Obama. The man has larger-than-normal ears, he isn’t exactly the most Herculean of athletes and he has a choppier speech pattern than William Shatner. As far as gaffes go, Obama once said that the U.S. had “57 states” and that a tornado in Kansas killed 10,000 people, when it actually only killed 12 (To be fair, I’m not always the best at math, either).

Trust me, if you really wanted to make jokes about Obama, there is no shortage of material to do so. But it seems as if any insult directed at Obama will brand the comedian as a “racist,” simply because the president happens to be black. The same comedians who ripped George W. Bush, Sarah Palin and Dan Quayle to shreds won’t lampoon Obama to anywhere near the same degree.

Martin Luther King Jr. said he wanted people to be judged by their character, not by the color of their skin. And he wasn’t joking.

Regardless of the poster, there have been some hidious and obviously racist attacks on Obama. There has also been some incredibly inciteful and inventive mocking of him as well, (John Hodgeman's rip on him was hilarious).
As long as people are eager to reject the racist crap and enjoy and embrace the fun of poking fun there isn't a problem. I just get tired of people screaming about "polictical correctness" when they get called out on their racist comments or attitudes.

I guess I could find many things to make fun of this man about, like his George Jefferson walk, his dumbo ears or even his like of respect for the very brave men and women who died giving him the right to be where he is today. But so much over shadows the funny with the fear this man puts on me. I refuse to call him my president. I have not always agreed with other men who held this office, but I have never felt as though any of them put this country down as Obama has done trying to make Americia out to be the evil country. Never in the history of the world has there ever been any nation to do what Americia has done for other countries, even their enemys.
Making fun of this man is not going to help anything, getting him out of office is the answer, and thats not happening either.
I wish I had the answer but I don't. Lets all pray as we have never prayed before that somehow we will surive these four years and hope a real president will emerge for 2012.

Ah the race care has been played. Belle, race isn't always the issue. Sometimes it's just a plain old rejection of socialism. Besides, where was all the outrage when this very same depiction was made of GWB? The libs dished out trash and sewage on GWB on a daily basis using the MSM as there mouthpiece but he took it and never complained (to my knowledge). The libs may as well ditch the racism and bigotry comments because they don't work anymore. Most of us who have been accused of such in the past don't care or have any concerns about their baseless accusations.

MoreCowBell, you are exactly right. In July 2008 Vanity Fair magazine had a full page depiction of GWB as the Joker (Heath Ledger style). However,I am not sure the libs will let go of the race card. It is all they have. To let go of the race card would be admitting that those desiring a conversation/debate have legitimate concerns. Remember, according to the MSM and the Obama administration/libs, those disagreeing with President Obama and any of his policies (which BTW, I don't think he has any policies) are not only racists but dangerous as well. We conservatives are the real threat; we are the ones trying to destroy the democratic process, etc.

America is a Christian Country, although Obama says not. I am not ashamed of being a Christain from America, but Mr. and Mrs Obama are. Berry has not actually proven to me he is even a legal resident of the USA, because he is/was ( ? ) a citizen of Indonesia. Where is his birth record, college/univer transcripts, etc, etc? Makeing fun of Obama as well as calling the race card is childish. We need to focus on what matters and what is lawful to ask for or do. If people would take a stand on Obamas elementary eligibility to be President of the USA, I believe we could cast him out of office. Please stop the nit, picking and lets get down to the truth.

This man lied his way into the White House and looks like he's determined to lie his way out.
If the voters of his country don"t get rid of his bunch in the 2010 elections, I see little chance of this country surviving.

I agree with Festus ,there is no way I can call this guy president. It was the same with Carter.Whenever I was talking to someone about politics,I would just say Carter.

I voted for the man and im going to stand behind him, I dont care what race or what relegion he is. I am a Christian, but i also live in America where we can be what ever we want even if its not the majority opinion, Thats what this country was founded on. If anyone says they stand behind Bush then there is no reason not to stand behind Obama, from the shape this country was left after that idiot. Give the man a damn chance instead of all the bitching and moaning like John Givhan does on the radio.

btw febone, the 2010 elections will not include President.

rosco, you won't be able to be what "you" want to be much longer. If your president gets what he wants you will be what he wants you to be. A slave to his goverment rule. I know you're going to bash me now but thats ok. Just print this out, save it for a couple of years, then read it again, see who's right and who was wrong. The difference beteween you and me, I pray I'm wrong.

I'm very glad to see all the conservatives voicing their opinions this morning. Democrats are and have always been the biggest racist that there are. I guess that's why I have never understood why the majority of blacks and other minorities vote for them. Democrats try to keep people down and without dreams, so that they are dependent on the government. Government handouts are nothing more than prepayment for democrat votes. The only way to stop this cycle is through education, but won't be stopped in our school system, because liberals are in charge of dictating what is taught. We as conservatives have sat too long on the sidelines and watched this takeover happen, slowly but surely. I truly believe our sideline sitting is coming to an end.
We all know, both conservatives and democrats alike, that Obama proved he was a racist when he said, the Cambridge police acted stupidly, when he knew none of the facts. Democrats know it as well as anyone else, but only honest democrats would ever admit it.

roscopcoltrane: I voted for George W. Bush, but I did not follow him blindly, as you seem to be following "The Chosen One". George Bush did a lot of things I didn't like and most of them were from things he did to try to please liberals. If you care to look back in time, you would see that our economy was doing very well until your wonderful democrat congress took over in 2006 and it has been all down hill since then. That is a fact. It may not have been in great shape when "Obomer" took over, but you can thank people like Nancy P, Harry R, Barney F and Chris D for the mess it's in. Obama has proposed more spending that all the preisdents from George Washington to George W Bush combined and each thing he has done has drove us deeper in debt, you hang in there and just keep supporting him and maybe if you lose everything you have, Obomer will be good enough to send you to his brother George and you can move in with him, into his hut.

Festus: you are exactly right. I hope the archives will be here, so that we can come back and read and not have to print things out, but they may not be. If Obama care passes, these Obama worshipers will have to come up with some new material before long. It's amazing to me that they can defend something that Obama himself has never even read. It's like I've said before, this has nothing to do with health care and insuring people. It's all about controlling the people. They already control the non thinking, liberal robots. If they ever get control of conservatives and independents, our nation will be gone as we know it.

Roscoe stupid is as stupid does. I would not have told anyone that I had voted for him. And as far as it being a race thing it is not. He is a very bad man and we all will live to see that . The only people that uses the race card is blacks. The whites need to play that card because we are mistreated. If we look wrong we are racists. And I am so tried of that. Blacks have it as good as the whites and some times better. So get over the race thing.

rgodwin, you hit the nail on the head. It has absolutely nothing to do with giving Americans great health care, it's about controlling us. Scam and tax (cap & trade) is about controlling us. Gun control is about controlling us. They want power to be able to control every aspect of our lives from cradle to grave. I believe people are beginning to wake up to these scams and the scammers.

How can Obama's painted white face be construed as racist? To me it is more of a balanced improvement!
You all are right, the race card has been exhaustively over played. Perhaps we should begin asking the liberals to explain the Civil Rights Act 1964 every time they bring up the race card! Which group was stonewalling its passage? It was not the republicans!!

rgodwin: Right on the money, as usual!

Just read Andrew Gavin Marshall's report: "Entering the Greatest Depression in History - More Bubbles Waiting to Burst."

We have not just the Res. Real Estate Bubble, but the Commercial Real Estate Bubble.
Late in July of 2009, reports:
"Commercial real estate includes apartment bldgs., hotels, office towers, and shopping malls.

"As the economy has struggled, Developers and Landlords have had to rely on a helping hand from the US Federal Reserve - so the could get credit flowing to refinance existing buildings or even to complete partially constructed projects."

"Downtown office vacancies nationwide could come close to 15 percent by the end of this year..."
In the first quarter of 2009, retail tenants "have vacated 8.7 million sq. ft. of commercial space, which exceeds the 8.6 million sq. ft. of retail space that was vacated IN ALL OF 2008."!
Even China is expecting property prices to halve over the next 2 years.

The next one is the "stimulus package" or BAILOUT BUBBLE.
May 13th report "The biggest financial bubble in history is being inflated in plain sight - This is the Mother of All Bubbles, and when IT explodes, it will signal the end to the boom/bust cycle through the developed world..."

"However destructive the effects of the bust on employment, savings and productivity, (listen), the Free Market Capitalist framwork was left intact. But when the "BAILOUT BUBBLE EXPLODES, THE SYSTEM GOES WITH IT."

Is this the Progressive, One Worlders Grand Plan to bring us into world domination? ThEY can't be that ignorant of the cause and effect of Obama's agenda that they are forcing on us.

"Phantom dollars, printed out of thin air, backed by nothing...and producing next to nothing...defines the 'BAILOUT BUBBLE'. Just as with the other bubbles, so too will this one burst."

Even Warren Buffet says in July of 2009, "we're NOT in a recovery."

And there's the OIL BUBBLE.

The report also takes in the GREAT EUROPEAN BUBBLE. 'Times' article June 2009: "Europe is now in the middle of a perfect storm - a confluence of 3 separate, but interconnceted economic crises which theaten far greater devastation than Britain or America have suffered from the credit crunch...

They end the report thusly: "This debt based monetary system, controlled and operated by the global central banking system, of which the apex is the Bank for International Settlements, is unsustainable.
THIS IS THE REAL BUBBLE, THE DEBT BUBBLE. When IT bursts, and it will burst, the WORLD will enter into the Greatist Depression in World History!"

And that is why we must Stand United with God at our side.
Prepare your families for the coming hardtimes while there remains time.

Shamrock: thanks for your last post. I truly believe we are headed for the worse times of our lives, no matter what your age happens to be. I don't see any way around it, because I believe it is by design. Anyone on this blog other than the few liberals could do a better job with the economy than Obomer has done. If my checking account was getting low, the first thing I would do is stop writing checks until I had earned money to put back into my account. Obomer and his liberal democrat congress, don't have the common sense to stop spending. They just have more money printed, like it won't have to be paid back. This, my friend is true stupidity!!!!! I hope and pray, that God will see fit, to let our country survive this lunatic and this congress. If they keep on and totally destroy the dollar. We will have poverty here, the likes that none of us, have ever seen.

It all goes back to the beginning...the Constitution says by the people for the people, not the president/congress...other parts of the country are falling for his 'childlike' good looks and his BS...not so here in AL, look at our senators/local representive, each has voted against any and all Obama plans, as we, the people, directed. As far as the 'joker' face, remember, he is reportedly 1/2 white-1/2 black, therefore, noone and everyone has the right to point fingers, it's just the liberals or the 'wanna bes' that make an issue of it...like Leno,O'Brien,Letterman,Fallon (not Craig Fergerson),Olbermann,Maddow, etc., same ones who make fun of Alabama on a weekly basis. Here in our city/cty/state, Obama carried less than 30%, so, any of his plans are mute... let's keep it that way.

What just kills me with Obama is he thinks he is God and what he says should be law and please do not question his it makes him so mad. He will lose control because I think the American people are now seeing him for what he is. He is a liar and a very evil man. He wants to control the way we live, and ever aspect of our lives. I am sorry for the fact that alot of people do not have health insurance, our family did not have it for many years and some months I can barely pay for it. But my husband and I get up ever day and we work our butts off to have what we have. No one gives us anything. Alot of times I pay bills before I buy food. But I made those bills and we do not have anyone to bail us out. I am sick to death of handouts to large compaines and banks. If they did not over spend they would not be in trouble. I wish folks would stand on their own two feet.

outlaw11 I hope you have written your elected officials and thanked them for supporting us and our views here in the great state of Alabama. I don't care what those pinheads say about this state on their idiot shows. I have lived in many parts of this country from the east coast to the west and the only place, since leaving home in SD as a kid to join the Navy, I have felt truly comfortable and accepted as an equal is here. I want to say Thank You to the good folks that live here.
By the way I also email my elected politicians both Federal and State and thank them for their good work and I always let them know what my feelings are about the issues of the day. I feel it is all of ours duty to let them know how we feel both when we are happy with them and mad at them. By the way I am mad at the President and his idiots, it is not astroturf mad, not manufactured mad, and not RNC organized mad--it is politician-induced mad. By the way I did tell Senators Shelby and Session and Representative Bright about what has made me so mad, although I have a feeling they too feel the same way.
To the rest of you conservatives and blue dog democrats I say keep your voices strong and do not let the outdated race-card crap mute your concerns any longer.
God Bless America and we pray you will help us to keep her free and strong.

Alachris and outlaw:
Before the end of the day I saw Newt Gingrich on book TV give an excellent pep talk with Q & A's to a large group of College Conservatives on the differences between the Liberals and Conserv., and health care metality.
It was surprisingly very well done - neat and easy for them to go back to College and use his info to debate, email, blog, phone everyone they know to WRITE THEIR LEGISLATURES and Make sure that they do!
He's doing alot of this throughout the country, I understand. And the youth are very accepting of this!
He talks their language.
This talk was given this past Tuesday. I feel this is encouragement for all conservatives to do likewise as has been done here and on Who's the Real Racist and other subjects on Star News.
Good going, boys!.. and ladies!

TD,alabamachris and Shamrock: Thank you all 3. Your last post were great. I'm so proud of conservatives, for making their voices heard in these forums. We have sat around too long and have been silent long enough. I don't care whether you claim to be republican or democrat, conservatives know that Obama, and the liberal, elitist, democrat congress, do not hold the same values that most Americans do and their policies are destroying the America that we love. We have to clean house of these liberals as elections come, if we are to ever turn our country back to the God fearing, freedom loving country it has always been.

Amen rgodwin. You can look around you everyday and see this country going down the drain. The biggest problem is that people have left God out of everything, you can not do it without him. He is the light that makes everything right. The next thing when we do not get involved in what goes on in this world because you think it will fix itself, it will not. You have a voice use it. And another problem when people stopped spanking their children, we raise people like Nancy Pelois. Her parents should have beat the crap out of her. I am not the best person in the would but you can find the answer to anything in your Bible. Look to God and you will find the answer. Obama is the devil and I think Biden's parents smoked to much dope.

TD: Thanks, the part of your post about Nancy Pelosi and Joe Biden made me laugh out loud but your whole post was true. We have a president, that says he's a christian, but says that Christ isn't the only way to heaven. That one statement, disqualifies him as christian. John 14:6 says "I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me." This won't mean anything to an atheist, but a christian has to believe the bible and that it's Gods word, or he himself disqualfies himself as christian. I don't believe Obama is the devil, but he is definitely one of his favorite angels.

Why is the choice between christian or atheist? There are hundreds of religions some are christian and most are not.
What is wrong with being an atheist anyway? I have my own religion which keeps me buoyant in times of personal turmoil. I would think it sacreligous to attempt to impose it on another human being.

Bluebelle51 : My post had nothing to do with you or anyone else, other than Obama. You are free to believe anything you want and be who you want to be. That's what is so great about our country. What I said was, that Obama claimed to be a christian and his own words disqualified him from being so. It is not possible to be a christian, if you don't believe, the bible is Gods word. To me, Gods word is the ultimate authority, on all things. You can go back and read my post that you are commenting on now. It gives book, chapter and verse. You either accept it as Gods word, or you don't. You still have that freedom in America as of right now. Enjoy it while you can, but in the end, every knee will bow and every tongue will confess, that Jesus is the Christ. I'll never understand how we got to this subject, but you asked and this is the answer. In the end, you will understand, but by then, it will be too late.

Now can we get health care reform?

Posted by rgodwin (anonymous) on August 10, 2009 at 2:29 p.m. (Suggest removal)

Bluebelle51: I agree, we need health care reform, but not what Obomer and the dems are proposing! They care nothing about health care reform, all they want, is power over every hard working Americans life. If they believed for one second that their plan was worth 2 cent, they'd abandon their own, personal health care plan and take what they are attempting, to shove down our throats. The fact that they won't, should be reason enough for every American to totally reject it.

Posted by Bluebelle51 (anonymous) on August 10, 2009 at 3:07 p.m. (Suggest removal)

Actually there are least 3 bills that are proposed and there is one in the senate, none of which are reconciled yet. If ANYONE tells you they know what is in the bills they are probably lying, because until they are reconciled no one knows what is the final proposal will be.
I am not rejecting anything until the final bill is before the senate. Although anything that would require us to buy insurance from the companies that already have staff whose sole job it is, is to find ways to reject legitimate claims to keep their profit margins up, should be rejected.
We can only keep pressure on the legislators to make sure that regulations are in place to prevent that from continuing in it's present form.
But as we sit here worried about what the final bill may or may not hold in store for us, what we should ALL be after is campaign finance reform.
I would like to see a time when our legislators are not wholly owned subsidies of giant corperate interests.
Our senators are all (pick a party, any party ) enslaved to corperate money to have the finances to run a campaign.
As long as they are, do you really think that any meaningful bank, health care, environmental, reform can take place?

Posted by realist (anonymous) on August 10, 2009 at 3:26 p.m. (Suggest removal)

rgodwin, you say the Bible is God's word, but I think that's a bit too literal. The Bible was written by men and inspired by God. Just look at the four canonical gospels; all are about the same subject but are four different accounts from four different men. The gospel of John is drastically different from the other three in theme and subject and many early Christians viewed it as heretical. Part of the reason for this is because of that particular verse. In the other gospels, the way to heaven is portrayed differently with emphasis on being a good person and doing good works rather than unwavering belief. I've always wondered if the reason for that is because belief is easier than action.

At any rate, what is now canonical has not always been so, and even today different faiths have different views on what is canon and what is not as well as how to interpret their canon. It's amazing how much these beliefs can vary from one version of Christianity to the next.

Bluebelle51: I sure don't believe we'll get campaign finance reform with what's in congress now, that's what I meant a few post back when I said "We have to clean house of these liberals as elections come, if we are to ever turn our country back to the God fearing, freedom loving country it has always been."

We have these self serving cowards in both parties. We have a few good men in the republican congress, but most of them lack a backbone. If they can't stand up and vote to protect Americans and our freedoms at all times, they need to go!

Posted by rgodwin (anonymous) on August 10, 2009 at 3:51 p.m. (Suggest removal)

realist : you are more than welcome to your opinion as I am to mine. The bible was written by inspiration, I believe, over a period of about 1600 years, 66 books and 40 different authors. There were 4 accounts of the gospel and not one word contradicts each other in these 4 books or any of the other 62 books. All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: Second Timothy 3:16. This means that the bible is perfect, not the men who penned it, but the one who inspired it. It is my choice to believe this, just as it is your choice to not. I still stand by the fact, that you can not be a christian, if you don't accept Gods word as truth, and if we can't agree on that, there is nothing, for you and I to discuss.

Posted by realist (anonymous) on August 10, 2009 at 4:27 p.m. (Suggest removal)

While I don't necessarily agree with all your points I respect your conviction. There are actually quite a few contradictions even in the Synoptic gospels, such as Matthew and Luke not agreeing on who Joseph's father was. When it came to heralding the birth of Jesus the story is different in Matthew and Luke. In Matthew the angel appears to Joseph and in Luke the angel appears to Mary. The synoptic gospels agree that the Last Supper occured on the first day of Passover, however John cites it as happening the day before. There are also contradictions surrounding the death of Judas. Matthew says he hanged himself whereas Acts states he purchased a field with the money he made from betraying Jesus then burst open and his entrails spilled into the middle of the field.

Mostly minor inconsitencies to be sure, but worth noting as they are indeed contradictions (there are others as well0. In my humble opinion, the word of God in it's purest form is indeed infallible and beyond question, but anything that is channeled through a man is subject to imperfection.

Posted by rgodwin (anonymous) on August 10, 2009 at 4:50 p.m. (Suggest removal)

realist: thank you, but I will still have to disagree on the contradictions. If you, I and 2 more people all saw a car accident happen and we saw it from different angels, we would all have a different account of the accident. A good investigator would combine all of our eyewitness accounts and come up with the truth of what actually happened. All of us may be correct, but each angle, the accident was seen from, should compliment each other and the true cause would emerge. The same goes for the four gospels as well as the entire bible. I've seen people before, who thought there were contradictions. If you think there are, it just means you need to do more studying. God is the author and he don't make, nor did he author, any junk.

Posted by rgodwin (anonymous) on August 10, 2009 at 5:08 p.m. (Suggest removal)

realist: just for the record, the bible does not say Judas purchased the potters field, not does it say he died there. Judas had brought the thirty pieces of silver back and gave it to the chief priest, before he went out and hanged himself. They took the money and bought the potters field for strangers to be buried in, because they said it was not lawful to put blood money into the treasury, Matt 27:7-8.

There are many sacred books, not limited to the bible. There is the Quaran, Bhagavad Gita, Torah, I Ching, some are from semetic religions and some aren't . There are valid and enlightened points made by all of them.
To argue the trivial differences between them makes for terrific theological discussions, yet it always seems to drive wedges between those who should all be on the same side.

Posted by rgodwin (anonymous) on August 10, 2009 at 5:55 p.m. (Suggest removal)

Bluebelle51: I understand all of those books are there, but if I believe the bible is Gods inspired word, which I do, It would be a complete waste of my time, to devote one second, to anything that would contradict, the greatest book ever written. Those books you mentioned, may have valid points for some people, but as a christian, I'd rather not, put non scriptual things in my head, where religion is concerned. There's too much, I still have to learn about the bible.

Posted by Bluebelle51 (anonymous) on August 10, 2009 at 8:35 p.m. (Suggest removal)

Thus my point is confirmed, it isn't a matter of which of these or any other books have valid points, as they all do, but by getting down into the weeds with finer points of any of them serves only to divide us from each other, so that the valid points that any of them make can be drowned out by the finer points that other ones make.
All of these books have great scriptual purpose to someone, as do others unnamed, but as long as we allow those fine details such as who begat who and which verse is the most apt depiction of what someone really meant to say, we cannot come together and be a whole people, which is, I think the basic principle of every single one of these books.
Now can we have health care reform?

Put the HC Plan on the internet and let the public read it.
How can you discuss anything before you read what it says? We need a Town Hall meeting, but NOT before we read the plan.

No, we can't have health care reform...not as it is currently proposed. Yes to health care reform if it is solely run by the private sector and not by the government.

Thanks Bluebelle51, but I'm with MoreCowBell on health care reform. We need it, but not what is dictated by these clowns.

Posted by Bluebelle51 (anonymous) on August 11, 2009 at 10:46 a.m. (Suggest removal)

MoreCowBell, the private sector has a place but only when they no longer rescind policies when people get sick or injured, once the cost of policies isn't the equivilant of 3 percent of the gross domestic product , once pre-existing conditions will not prevent a diabetic child from ever having insurance.
Since the CEO's are pulling down 11.9 million dollars a year and profits for insurance companies have risen from 12 billion in the year 2000, to 400 billion in 2007, while the number of americans that have health insurance has dropped by 15 percent in that same time frame, all of this by using the tactics that only allow healthy people to have insurance.
I have dead friends because of these policies, truth be told, unless you are a millionaire, you do to.

Bluebelle51: I am with you totally, that we need health care reform, but Obama's plan or what we call Obama's plan isn't it. Obama himself, has no idea what is in the dems plan and he doesn't even care, because this has nothing and I mean nothing to do do with health care. It is totally about control of your life and mine. If you truly want health care reform, do everything in your power to see that true, honest, freedom loving conservatives, are elected in the 2010 elections and make health care reform a top issue. If the dems push this socialist debacle through, America will be worse off, and will be paying for it the rest of our lives

I want to remind you good folks, "This President is in office because Americans wanted CHANGE." We have had a preview of the CHANGE that is coming. Now they want to CHANGE our health care system. Does this worry anyone but me?
If you want to lower the cost of health care and "all options are on the table,” why is Tort reform NOT in any of the three bills out there. Ask you legislatures that when you write them.
By the way for any of you that are wondering how to contact your legislatures go to http://www.conservativeusa.org/mega-cong... and select Alabama.

If only providing healthcare was the real issue this could be solved. However, it is about one more segment of our society having to depend on our government to provide something for them and the power it gives those in control of handing out these programs.

I hear everyone saying all Americans should have a right to healthcare. I have heard about rights, rights, and more rights until I am sick of it. Yes, you have rights! But, let me introduce you to another "R" word. It is responsibility.

You see, with rights also come responsiblity. This is what is being left out of all the talk about healthcare. It is my responsibility to provide healthcare, clothing, food, housing, education and many other things my family and I both want and need. It is not and never has been the governments job to do any of these things for my family and I.

It is the governments job to remove the barriers that hinder progress in these areas. But, it is not the governments job to provide these for my family and I. You are not and should not be granted these things by virtue of being born in the USA. It is your responsibility to provide these if you desire to have them.

If this was truly about providing healthcare for everyone it could be solved with a tax exemption for 100% of any health insurance premiums paid by either employer or employee. This is what I mean by "the governments job to remove those barriers".I know some are not employed and many of these are covered by other plans. However, for the ones that are not we could expand the current welfare type coverage that already exist . If you are not a legal citizen I am sorry but you would not be covered. You are not legal .You broke the law to be here. You should be in jail. Be greatful you are not .

Bottom line, we dont have to destroy the current private industry and have another gov't take over. This could be solved if it were honest and truly about providing healthcare. With a little forthought and study a plan could be developed. The private sector would be more competitive as a result of the tax exemptions. As I stated before, it is not about providing but it is another "P" word..... POWER.

Dogface, you are correct my friend. It's all about control and power.

Posted by Bluebelle51 (anonymous) on August 12, 2009 at 3:06 p.m. (Suggest removal)

Right now the control you fear is in the hands of people whose job it is, is to maximize profits by minimizing the loss when you use your health insurance, if you are lucky enough to HAVE health insurance. Care is already rationed by income levels, and if you have insurance through your employer you get to pick the insurance company that your employer chose.
Unless we all band together and demand health care reform, we are all just serving our corperate masters.

Posted by Dogface (anonymous) on August 12, 2009 at 4:27 p.m. (Suggest removal)

Bluebelle,
Why do you hate corporations so much. If not for corporations this country would not have what we do have. These corporations that make profits pay taxes. These taxes go to fund every pie-in-the-sky pork project that the fine folks in Washington D.C. come up with. Yes, healthcare corporations pay taxes also.

If a corporation is not out to make a profit it will not be a corporation for long. It will be out of business. The only exceptions to this rule is government funded corps. such as PBS (The Corporation for Public Broadcasting).

If you are employed I am certain you hope your company profits. If you own your company I know you hope it makes a profit. I want any company I work for to make an obscene profit. Why should the healthcare industry be any different from any other?

Everything is rationed by income levels. I can't own a home, car or afford the education of a millionaire. That does not mean someone should just give it to me because they feel I deserve it.

By the way, you do not have to choose the insurance your employer has for you. As of right now you can buy any plan you wish to have. No one is telling you that you must have this plan or nothing at all. If they are please contact a lawyer because you have a case.

You say I fear control. You are right. But, what you fear is freedom. I fear a government that has not won its "war on poverty" since Lyndon Johnson declared it trying to take on another war it will not win.

The real bottom line in all of this craziness is the real bottom line. We cannot afford it even if we wanted to do it.
It is not possible. You show me how in real dollars with real numbers that it can be done. Do it without adding any taxes because we are taxed enough. I mean rich and poor.

Again, as I have stated in the past. It is my respnsiblity to provide healthcare for my family. If that means my family and I cant drive the newest of cars, wear the latest fashions, have cable TV, or give up many other things then so be it. It is about priorities and responsiblities. Pay for your own healthcare.

Dogface,
that was an excellent post. I'm like you, I don't know why some people hate corporations. I hate corporate corruption, just like I hate government corruption, but not corporations themselves. How many poor people have you ever seen, employ a factory full of people. The fact that a free American could say, they hate corporations is either a big sign of ignorance, or total stupidity. They themselves can make that choice. Corporations can be any size, from very very small, to the largest of all. Small business and large business is what makes America the greatest country on earth. We are the most blessed country on earth, because of our belief in God, our constitution and our capitalist free market system. This is America. Love it or leave it. There are many that I wish would leave!

Wow. It is easy to see some of you have done your homework in reading through bills. However, the other 90 percent of this seems to be regurgitated information folks have gotten from TV, friends, family and others who are on the anti-Obama train.

You don't have to like the man, that's true. I'll choose to support him because he is the President and was elected so. I didn't always enjoy George W, but I backed him while he was in office because he was the President. My patriotic nature at work, I suppose.

I don't care what you believe, as long as you do it for the right reasons. Read the material yourself. Then decide. Don't formulate your opinions because your friend or minister or another politician told you what Obama is doing. Dislike him because YOU decided for yourself on firsthand information, not secondhand.

And I really can't believe people are still questioning if he can legally be President. He was born in the U.S. to a natural-born citizen mother in Hawaii two years after Hawaii became a state. How is he not an American? You can do the research yourself, but it's all conveniently cited here in one place http://www.snopes.com/politics/obama/cit...

If you don't like the guy, that's fine. But, come on, at least don't like him for a legitimate reason.

John McCain was born outside the U.S. in the Panama Canal zone. Both candidates had backgrounds that were very publically scrutinized.

formerandygirl: I voted for George W. Bush, but there were a lot of things I didn't support him on, but the one thing he didn't do, was try to socialize our country. A true freedom loving American, can't say they support the President, simply because he was elected. Obama told lie after lie to get elected and continues to lie, every time he opens his mouth. If you've read the health care bill, which I doubt, it is plain to see, he wants control over you me and every other Americans life, so before you go chastising others , for their opinions, get your own, ducks in a row. As far as Obama being born in Hawaii, you can say what you want, but it is a fact, unless he's done it in the last few days, that he has never come up with a certified vault copy of his birth certificate, He posted a certificate of live birth from Hawaii, which is not the same thing. I don't know if he was born in the US or not, but his own grandmother said he wasn't. As an American, I'd like to know for sure, because our constitution is being trampled, if he is allowed to hold the office of President and he was born in Kenya.

rgodwin: Don't pretend to know me or what I have or haven't read. You're already wrong about what you've assumed about me. And, I didn't chastise anyone. I said, I don't care what you believe personally, I simply said it'd be great if folks knew the truth behind their likes and dislikes before repeating what they've heard. One fine example of that is the reference to the separation of church and state. It came up in an exchange of letters between Jefferson and the Danbury Baptists. It's not in the Constitution or any legal document. However, people still use the statement to the benefit of their arguments without realizing that. You're the one chastising. I just said I wished people would do their homework and think for themselves. Happy Sunday!

If you've read the health care bill, which I doubt, it is plain to see, he wants control over you me and every other Americans life".

You also questioned people, who believe he was born in Kenya. He has never produced a certified vault copy of his birth certificate and most likely never will, most likely because he was born in Kenya. He could put that thinking to rest any day he wished, if he was truly born in Hawaii.

louise63: I'M SO GLAD YOU SAW THE BRILLIANCE IN FORMERANDYGIRL'S RESPONCE, IT TOTALLY ESCAPED ME.

rgodwin: "Obama told lie after lie to get elected." What escapes me about this, including the statements about him being born in Kenya, is that during elections, every dirty little secret about politicians comes out. He was already a Senator, it would have come out then, too. Affairs, car accidents, cocaine problems. What did he lie about? I can think of things I don't agree with, but I can't think of a lie that can be proven by those, like you, who seem to have a problem with the man in the Oval Office. By the way, Obama birth was documented in two Hawaiian newspapers and a nurse who was there at his delivery was disposed about the day. Also, State Officials have verified the documents against health records and vital statistics. To think that ALL those people are involved in a conspiracy that hasn't been found out by anyone is a little silly. Much like many of your posts. However, one of your online alter-egos, friends or someone who dislikes the President of their own accord will be here soon to back you up. Don't get your feathers in a bunch. If not doing your research and spouting off what others have told you is a winning stance here. You win. Congrats. Have a wonderful Sunday pretending you know how people should believe and why. Enjoy the Kool-aid you're being served. Drink up! I'll pray for you tonight that one day you can respect the viewpoint of others, even when it isn't your own. I'm sure rgodwin will post something he feels is clever or witty in response to this and others, or himself logged in as another person will cheer him on. I don't care, if he has to have the last word. It's impossible for some to post without attacking others, it seems. That's someone who speaks to hear himself speak. And that's someone who was probably picked on as a child on the playground that can now hide behind anonymous comments and try to make themselves feel better. Bet your family boycotted the Lion King, AT&T and Levis. Later all. I won't be back, so rgodwin, take comfort in knowing that your final words will be unread and uncontested. That's the only way you can win, when you shout so loud other people get tired of listening to the babble. Hmmm. Wonder if you're getting red or orange Kool-Aide today.

There is an old adage, if you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen. I was merely pointing out FACTS and defending myself from name calling.

The point I was trying to make is that the Repubican party usually preys on the "Bubba" factor. They try to indoctrinate people who do not know any better and the result is the recital of talking points from Fox News & Glen Beck. Most of which are not based upon fact or truth. They are just spewing hatred and fear to push the Replublican agenda.

Again, that is why the Republicans have lost the Presidency, House and Senate. They have quite simply lost touch with the American Public.

Rush Limbaugh is your strongest spokesperson and he is a cartoon. What answers do any of you have? We (Democrats) are just trying to clean up the MESS the Repubs made over the last eight years.

If you want to vent, then vent to the National Republican Party. They are your problem and the reason the Republicans are poweless at this point in our history. Just a fact!

Yes, majority status for both Houses shifts like the sand, as does the presidency! That is precisely what the framers of the US Constitution envisioned. Every two to four years some old faces stay, some go, new faces show up and the beat goes on......

Let us thank God for our 44th President who happens to be an African American male and well qualified to lead our country. Did we and our fore fathers not thank God and give support to the previous 43 Presidents who I believe were all WHITE? President Obama is not the problem. He inherited the problem caused by the Bush Administration over a period of eight years. So, let's be sensible folks. Our President cannot wave a magic wand and expect the problems he inherited to just go away over night. But with the help of God and the support and prayers of the American People, he and his administration will accomplished more than we could ever imagine. That is, accomplish things that are in the best interest of the American People such as Health Care Reform, Education, Social Security, Medicare, etc. I know that there are many more who share my sentiment.
