County wins to force rematch with Andy

Covington County and Andalusia see-sawed back and forth in a 13-year-old Babe Ruth All-Star District 8, Area 2 Tournament Game last night in Opp .
Covington County's All-Stars ended the night on top with an 11-7 victory to force a winner-take-all game at 8 p.m. tonight.
The winner of tonight's game will be crowned the District 8, Area 2 Champion and will advance to the Area Tournament in Atmore on July 11.
Andalusia was the visiting team in the second meeting between the two teams and put two runs on the scoreboard in the top of the first when Michael Berry and Zack Jones scored.
Covington County answered with four runs in the bottom of the first inning to take a 4-2 lead when Jonathan Griggs, Andrew Odom, Josh Douglas and Clark Sanders scored. Odom also had an RBI-hit in the inning.
Andalusia knotted the score at 4-4 in the top of the second inning when Berry reached base on a walk and came around to score. Berry stole second and third base before scoring on an error later in the inning.
Covington County also scored one run in the second inning to remain out in front by a score of 5-4.
Odom scored his second run of the game for Covington County in the second inning after reaching on a walk. He scored later in the inning on an error.
The see-saw continued in the top of the third inning when Andalusia scored one run to tie the score at 5-5.
Jordan Maynor scored in the third for Andalusia after reaching base on a walk. He scored on a
sacrifice fly by Charles Gunter after stealing third.
Covington County kept the see-saw moving back and forth in the bottom of the inning when Jonathan Griggs scored on an RBI-single by Rhett Dewrell after three consecutive walks had loaded the bases for Covington County.
Andalusia tied the score back up in the top of the fourth when Berry scored his third run of the game after reaching base on a single and going to second on an error. He stole third before scoring on an RBI-single by Jones.
Covington County broke the see-saw in the bottom of the fourth when Josh Pettus, Daniel Hart and Griggs scored for a 9-6 edge.
Covington County remained in front the rest of the way.
Andalusia scored one run in the top of the fifth when Jernigan scored on an RBI-single by Mackenzie Curry after reaching base on a walk.
Covington County stretched their lead back to three runs in the bottom of the fifth when Sanders scored for a 10-7 lead. Sanders reached on an error, moved to second on a passed ball, advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored on a ground out by Sam Bush.
Andalusia failed to score in the sixth with Covington County tacking on an insurance run in the bottom of the inning when Odom scored.
Andalusia trailed Covington County 11-7 with three outs and failed to score going down in order.
The two teams will play in a rematch at 8 p.m. tonight.
Andalusia advanced to the championship game with a win against Covington County after a first-round bye in the tournament.
Matt Mellown pitched a complete game allowing just two hits while striking out 10 in the win.
The Andalusia offense was also powered by Mellown. He scored three runs in the victory and had one RBI. Westley Glisson also had a good game, scoring one run and knocking in a run. Also scoring runs for Andalusia were Michael Berry, Jonathan Jernigan, Josh Smithart, Jordan Maynor and Mackenzie Curry.
Covington County's All-Stars advanced to the championship game with two wins against Opp.
In the first game of the tournament, Covington County outscored Opp 11-9 for the win. Daniel Hart was the winning pitcher.
Jonathan Griggs, Josh Douglas and Josh Bulger each scored two runs in the win. Douglas also had two RBIs in the game. Rhett Dewrell also had two RBIs and scored a run in the win. Andrew Odom and Taylor Benton both scored a run and had one RBI in the game. Also scoring runs were Tyler Sharp and Joshua Pettis.
In a rematch, the Covington County All-Stars topped the Opp All-Stars in an elimination game to advance to the championship game.
Covington County recorded a 12-10 win to advance with Taylor Benton being named the winning pitcher.
Jonathan Griggs paced Covington County's offense, scoring three runs. Andrew Odom also played a big role in the win with two runs and two RBIs. Josh Bulger also scored two runs and had two RBIs in the win. Rhett Dewrell and Clark Sanders each scored one run and had one RBI in the game. Also scoring a run was Daniel Hart.
