Tournament postponed: Lightning strikes schedule

Just as the 13-year-old Babe Ruth tournament began in Atmore, Mother Nature changed the schedule of events with showers of rain and lightning.

The Andalusia 13-year-old Babe Ruth All-Stars were in the bottom of the first inning in the first game of the tournament when the game was halted and postponed due to lightning and rain.

The game was scheduled to be resumed once weather conditions permitted.

Unlike the 2002 Major League Baseball All-Star Game, there were no plans to call the game prior to its completion.

Andalusia held a 4-3 lead in the bottom of the first inning when play was suspended.

Many of the Andalusia 14-year-old Babe Ruth All-Star players and coaches had just arrived when the rain began to fall.

The 14-year-old All-Stars from Andalusia were scheduled to play the host Atmore All-Stars at 8 p.m.

Neither game was completed by presstime.

The 15-year-old Babe Ruth tournament is slated to begin at 8 p.m. today when Opp faces Atmore.
