Rain postpones Little League game

Rain continues to hamper area teams.

The 9- and 10-year-old Covington County Little League All-Stars lost its first game and was set to play Phenix City National at 7:30 p.m. on Monday.

The teams played two innings before the game was postponed with the score knotted at 0-0.

The game was scheduled to resume at 5 p.m. on Tuesday. Complete results from the game were not available at presstime.

The winner of the Covington County/Phenix City National game was scheduled to play in the late game Tuesday night against Russellville. The game was slated to begin at approximately 8:30 p.m. The winner of that game will play again at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, July 17.

The Covington County All-Stars lost 11-1 in the first game of the 9- and 10-year old Little League State Tournament in Florence.

The Covington County All-Stars faced one of the favorites to win the tournament when they played Mobile-Westside in their first game.

Mobile-Westside lived up to their reputation playing extremely well on defense.

Mobile-Westside's batters also benefitted from some tournament jitters by the Covington County All-Stars.

Mobile-Westside scored 11 runs for an 11-1 win when the game was called after four innings due to the 10-run rule.

Mobile-Westside scored 11 runs on six hits and only two of the runs were earned.

Justin Estes scored Covington County's run on an RBI-single by Caleb Cochran.

Andalusia's offense struggled against Mobile-Westside because of the team's defense.

In 15 at-bats only three Andalusia batters struck out.

Mobile-Westside went on to record a 10-run win against Russellville in its second game of the tournament. Mobile-Westside limited Russellville to just two hits.
