Covington County eliminated at state

The season came to an end for the Covington County 9- and 10-year-old Little League All-Stars after a game that took more than 24 hours to complete.

Covington County dropped their first game of the State Tournament in Florence to Mobile-Westside by a final score of 11-1.

The second game of the tournament for the Covington County All-Stars was set for 7:30 p.m. on Monday against the Phenix City All-Stars.

After two innings of scoreless baseball, rain fell heavily on the diamond and the game was postponed.

The game was not resumed until 5 p.m. on Tuesday.

Covington County fell behind before scoring one run in the top of the sixth inning.

Covington County's only run once again came off a clutch hit by Caleb Cochran. He had the only two RBI-hits in the tournament to for Covington County.

Phenix City, however, held on for a 3-1 win to eliminate the Covington County All-Stars from the tournament.

Phenix City's three runs came off pitcher Cole Armstrong. Armstrong pitched a complete game and got the loss despite only allowing one earned run in the game. Two of Phenix City's three runs scored on errors.

The members of the 2002 Covington County 9 and 10-year-old Little League All-Stars who advanced to the State Tournament are Cole Armstrong, Nick Allen, Caleb Cochran, Andrew Langford, Jamison Lee, Justin Estes, Chase Parker, Aaron Haag, Colter Poole, D.J. Sankey, Tanner Lee and Josh Dewrell. The team was coached by Manager Greg Parker, Coach Dean Armstrong and Coach Mark Dewrell.
