Junior Miss begins tonight

The Covington County Junior Miss, Inc. 2003
competition will be held Friday and Saturday.
Both of the performances will be held at the LBW Junior College at the Dixon Center for the Performing Arts at 7:30 p.m.
In this year's event, there will be 16 participants in the talent portion of Friday night.
On Saturday night, the participants will compete in fitness and poise, and the overall winner will be announced.
The theme of this year's program is "Dear Diary: A Day in the Life," and will depict the experiences of a Junior Miss participant as she prepares for the competition.
Participants in the local program are eligible for $10,500 in cash tuition scholarships.
These scholarships include those won by the Junior Miss and the four alternates, as well as the category winners.
In addition, scholarships from Troy State University are available based upon the participants' grade point average and SAT scores.
"The 16 girls participating in this year's program are energetic, hardworking and compatible," said Nancy Hammett. "The talent of the girls, combined with the exciting music and choreography and the colorful costumes, sets and lighting should provide two nights of entertainment for the audiences."

participants for this year's program include Tawny Bedsole of Straughn School; Amanda Buckelew of Opp High School; Elizabeth Cagle of Andalusia High School; Chasity Cauley of Opp High School; Coty Cross of Pleasant Home School; Natalie Franklin of Opp High School; Shelley Nall of Andalusia High School; Lauren Pebworth of Andalusia High School; Theresa Perrin of Straughn School, Allison Phillips of Andalusia High School; Constance Picking of Alabama School for the Deaf; Nicole Slicer of Straughn School; Tonya Tarey of Opp High School; Keri Till of Andalusia High School; Jessica Tyler of Andalusia High School and Kristen Williams of Opp High School.
General admission tickets are $5, and are available for purchase from participants, from Ansley Place and from the Bass Agency.
