Four people were arrested in Red Level on drug charges August 10, according to Red Level Police Chief David Anderson.
According to Anderson, night patrolman Chris Byrd was working a routine traffic detail on Alabama 55
and made a routine traffic stop at around 9:30 p.m on a 1985 Buick Lesabre.
The car made a turn onto County Road 82 in an apparent attempt to avoid being stopped.
The vehicle in question ultimately proceeded down a driveway and into a ditch, said Anderson. The car contained four occupants and had a Jefferson County tag.
Arrested was the driver, Angela M. Mitchell, 27, of Wetumpka. Her license was suspended and she was issued four citations for traffic and equipment violations.
A further observation of the vehicle, with the assistance of the Covington County Sheriff's Department and a K-9 unit, revealed a bag of marijuana in the passenger side front floorboard.
Mitchell was charged with possession of marijuana in the second degree and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Also arrested on the same charges were 29-year-old Melvin Long of Wetumpka, 25-year-old Jarmain Summerville of the Fort Walton Beach, Fla. area and 26-year-old Artungua Dixon of Elmore County.
All four occupants of the vehicle were transported to the Covington County Jail.
Anderson said an investigation is continuing into other items discovered in the vehicle.
