Bowlers advance to state

Lucky 13. Members of the Adult Activity Center's bowling group recently competed at the District Games in Dothan and 13 of the 14 bowlers from Covington County placed to earn a trip to the State Games being held in Valley in October.

Lenora Edgar with the Adult Activity Center said the bowlers competed in different age groups with the top three finishers in each age group earning a spot in the State Games. The bowlers will leave for the State Games on Oct. 7.

The ladies from Covington County at the District Games earned two first place finishes with seven earning top three finishes and the right to compete in the State Games.

Yvonne Leiding and Bonnie Dove both earned first-place honors at the District Games.

Phyllis Nester and Bonnie Puckett finished in second place at the District Games.

Merle Little, Glenda Thornton and Mary Lowery each earned a third-place finish at the District Games to advance to the State Games.

Joe Barnes paced the men bowlers from Covington County with a first-place finish at the District Games.

Bobby Davis, William Jay and Bill Shelton each earned a second-place finish in their respective age divisions to qualify for the State Games.

Ed L. Schad finsihed in third place to advance to the State Games.

Each bowler earning a top-three finish at the District Games earned a ribbon. The bowlers who place at the State Games will be presented with medallions.

The members of the Adult Activity Center bowlers who participated in the District Games are Merle Little, Bonnie Puckett, Bonnie Dove, Kathy Graves, Ed. L. Schad, Yvonne Leiding, Bobby Davis, Bill Shelton, Glenda Thornton, Phyllis Nester, Joe Barnes and William Jay.
