Thursday was a good night for the Andalusia Middle School Bulldogs.

The Opp Middle School Bobcats were in town for a little football competition and the Bulldogs swept the Bobcats.

In a one-quarter 7th-grade game, Andalusia recorded an 8-0 win when Bilyon Jones scored on a 75-yard quarterback sweep around the right side. Ibrahim John added two points on a run around the left side for a two-point conversion.

Opp failed to score and the Bulldogs started the evening of football with a victory.

In the 8th-grade game, the Bulldogs recorded a 12-8 win holding off a late Opp challenge.

The Bulldogs went on top 6-0 on the final play of the first half when quarterback Matthew Mellown refused to be tackled on a 17-yard run. He broke several tackles before bulldogging his way across the goal line. The two-point attempt was no good and Andalusia held a 6-0 edge at the half.

In the second half, the Bulldogs scored late in the third quarter for a 12-0 lead. Odesius Bryant scored on a two-yard plunge with 26 seconds left in the third. The two-point attempt failed, but the Bulldogs held a 12-0 lead.

Opp rallied for a touchdown late in the fourth quarter when Rhett Barnes scored on a quarterback sneak. Barnes added a two-point conversion and the Bobcats had trimmed the Bulldogs' lead to 12-8 with 1:30 left to play.

Opp recovered a fumble with 42 seconds left in the game, but failed to score when Mellown intercepted a pass on third down

and ran it into the end zone.

The touchdown was nullified by a clipping penalty during the return.

The Andalusia offense came out and ran one play to run out the clock for a 12-8 victory.
