Area players in AHSAA spotlight

Three area players have been named to the Alabama High School Athletic Association's Prep Football Spotlight for their accomplishments during Week 2 of the 2002 season.

Red Level running back/linebacker Antonio Harris leads the list and was named the top player of the week in the state by The Birmingham News.

Harris ran for 387 yards and scored five touchdowns to move into the prep football spotlight selected by the Alabama High School Athletic Association.

A survey of football games statewide is made weekly. Harris rushed 25 times for 387 yards and five touchdowns (60, 12, 63, 20 and 86 yards) in Red Level's 47-28 win over New Brockton. The senior tailback also recorded eight tackles and kicked one extra-point.

Other spotlight performances:

Arthur Coleman ran for three touchdowns and returned an interception 75 yards for another score in Pleasant Home's 55-0 victory over Zion Chapel.

Richard Justice ran for three touchdowns and returned a punt 92 yards for another score in Andalusia's 41-14 victory over Gulf Shores.

Brad Roberson of Ashville intercepted four passes in a 32-14 victory over Munford.

Desmond Walton rushed 34 times for 374 yards and two touchdowns and returned a kickoff 89 yards for another TD in Billingsley's 33-18 loss to Calera.

Carlton Rice of J.O. Johnson ran for 204 yards and three touchdowns, caught a scoring pass and led his team's defense with 10 tackles in a 27-6 triumph over Scottsboro.

Chris Jackson rushed for two touchdowns, returned a punt 60 yards for a TD and caught a 47-yard scoring pass as Abbeville ended a 26-game losing streak

in a 32-26 win over Lanett.

Adam Wickham of Cedar Bluff completed 16 of 21 passes for 303 yards and four touchdowns in a 55-14 victory over Appalachian.

Jessie Ochoki recorded 15 tackles and rushed for 115 yards in American Christian's 20-0 win over John Essex.

Ben Brewer of Westbrook passed for 209 yards and five touchdowns and Chris Lombardo ran for 208 yards caught two of the TD passes in a 43-35 victory over Vincent.

Ira Tolbert of Marengo chalked up 318 all-purpose yards and scored four touchdowns in a 48-14 triumph over Coffeeville.

Nathan Fordham and Brandon Cantu of Boaz combined for 309 yards rushing and five touchdowns in a 56-6 victory over Douglas.

Steven Harris rushed for 277 yards and three touchdowns in Childersburg's 38-19 win over Montevallo.

Nathan Collins of McIntosh rushed 18 times for 232 yards and three touchdowns in a 26-10 triumph over Bayside Academy.

Chris Nickson of Pike County passed for 229 yards and two touchdowns and ran for two more in a 42-21 win over W.S. Neal.

Antwan James rushed nine times for 219 yards and three touchdowns in East Limestone's 49-6 triumph over Madison County.

Undrea Sails of Marbury ran 11 times for 215 yards and three touchdowns and also threw a halfback pass for another score in a 59-20 victory over R.C. Hatch.

Chris Vines of Pelham passed for 292 yards in a 17-14 win over Hewitt-Trussville.

Rashad Johnson of Sulligent rushed for two touchdowns, returned a punt 80 yards for a TD and returned an interception 23 yards for another score in a 56-0 triumph over Danville.
