Opp second at tournament

Kinston was the site for the annual Set-Off Tournament this past weekend.

The Andalusia Lady Bulldogs went 1-3 at the tournament. Andalusia lost to eventual tournament champion Enterprise, New Brockton and Blountstown (Fla.). The Lady Bulldogs' win came against Ariton by a final score of 15-3, 15-10.

The Opp Lady Bobcats went undefeated in pool play at the tournament with wins against Kinston, Samson and Sneads (Fla.) to advance to the championship match against Enterprise.

The Lady Bobcats came up short against Enterprise by a final score of 11-15, 14-16.

Monday, the Lady Bobcats were back on the court for a match against the visiting Kinston Lady Bulldogs.

The Lady Bobcats won the first game of the match by a final score of 15-8.

Ingrid Patterson set the tone in the first game of the match with a spike on the opening point.

Opp's Christen Short also had several key plays in the opening game winning one point with a spike and another with a key block.

In the second game of the match, Opp fell behind 2-7 early before falling by a final score of 3-15.

The third, and deciding game of the match, was a 25-minute long marathon with neither team able to dominate.

Kinston built an early 1-3 edge, only to watch Opp rally within one point at 4-5.

Kinston stretched the lead back out to a 5-8 advantage.

Opp, however, refused to give up and rallied to take a 9-8 lead.

The Lady Bulldogs mounted a comeback and earned a hard-fought 10-15 win.

In the JV match between Opp and Kinston, Opp played its first match ever.

Kinston earned the win by a final score of 5-15, 5-15.

Next for both the Opp and Andalusia varsity squads is a tri-match on Thursday.

Opp will host Andalusia and Red Level at the tri-match with the first match set to begin at 4 p.m.
