School days at museum

An entire wall at the Three Notch Museum will soon be host to portraits of education in Covington County.

Sue Wilson, director of Three Notch Museum, said the project will give the citizens of Covington County an opportunity to witness the foundation of education in this area.

"We have some school pictures at the museum and we are trying to get a larger collection," Wilson said. "At one time there were quite a few one room school houses in Covington County. We are dedicating a whole wall to a school exhibit to showcase the history of education in Covington County."

Wilson said the idea for an education exhibit was first conceived during a trip to the East Three Notch School building.

"Some of us went to East Three Notch school when they were clearing out the building and we got some desks from there, "Wilson said. "We would really like to have one of the old desks that have ink wells. Anything in connection with school. They gave us some items for the museum. We have the green letters from A to Z. We also have items that were given to every student in the 50's. Not only are we looking for pictures but anything connected with education in Covington County."
