Wildcats cage Eagles, Lady Eagles win

The boys' teams representing Florala High School earned wins Friday night against the visiting Pleasant Home Eagles while the Lady Eagles topped the Lady Wildcats.

The Wildcats pounced on the Eagles early in the varsity boys game with a 21-8 run in the first quarter.

In the second period, Pleasant Home's offense came alive but the Wildcats remained ahead at the half by a score of 29-25.

Florala was ahead 40-35 after three quarters of play and the Wildcats went ahead to win the game by a final score of 53-49.

Robby Evans paced the Wildcats on offense with 17 points in the victory. Brad "James" Reese added 13 points for Florala. B.J. Barrett scored nine points for Florala and A.J. Thompson added seven. Curtis Oates scored five points and Mark Geohagan had two.

Pleasant Home's leading scorer was Author Coleman with 26 points. Troy Turman added 11 points in the loss. Nathaniel Blount had seven points and Chris "Tank" Huckabaa added five.



The Lady Eagles did not shoot very well, according to Head Coach Kelley Garner, but they shot well enough to earn a 36-25 win.

Pleasant Home was on top 12-10 at the half before adding to their lead for the win.

Britni Ballard paced Pleasant Home with 13 points while Beth Cox added nine. Coty Cross hit for six in the game. Faith Gunter, Amy Jacobs and Meghon Bryant had two points each.

Florala's top scorers were Darlene Aguigui and Brittany Carson. Aguigui had 10 points and Carson had six in the loss.


Florala won the B-team game by a final score of 43-37 despite trailing Pleasant Home 14-13 at the half.

Danny Wilson had a big night for Florala with 21 points in the win. Corderus Smiley added eight points and Rick Williams hit for five. Vance Gettis and Xavier Jones had four points each. Kaleb Scofield had one point.

Chris Little and Issac Edgar scored 12 points each for Pleasant Home.

The Florala squads return to action today when they host Laurel Hill at 5 p.m.
