Dear Editor:
On Friday, Jan. 10, 2003, my three small children and myself were involved in an automobile accident. It occurred at the Harmony Baptist Church intersection just after 3 p.m.
I would like to take this opportunity to express sincere gratitude and a heart-felt thank you to everyone who was there to see about us. Especially to the gentleman who arrived on the scene as it happened. He immediately came to me from his vehicle and never hesitated to help me as I screamed frantically for his assistance with my children (9 months, 3 year and 9 years-old) and as I called 911 on my cell phone. Although we've never met, he never once seemed to mind doing what I asked, and for that I am grateful.
I would also like to thank each individual present at the accident as well as those who have called us and prayed for us. However that is not physically possible. Many friends, family and emergency personnel worked hard to help me and my children in
every way that they could.
I would also like to commend the
promptness and professionalism of the Sheriff's department, local fire department and Faith EMS. It seemed as if they all immediately arrived following my 911 call and did everything humanly possible to assist us. I was transported to Mizell Memorial Hospital in Opp by Faith EMS and the car I received from both services was outstanding.
Anyone who has passed through the intersection at Harmony Baptist Church knows how dangerous it is. (Three lives have been taken there over the pas 10 years.) Even though a caution light has been placed there, along with two crosses (as an indication to slow down), I would love to see that intersection become a four-way stop. Although that may never be a possibility, I encourage everyone who enters that intersection to slow down, stop, look and listen as six more lives could have easily been taken there on Friday .
Again I would like to say "thank you" and may God richly bless each and everyone who took part in my life and the lives of my three children on Friday, Jan. 10, 2003. You are all very special to us.
