Lady Bulldogs rally past Opp

"Do it your Self" is exactly what the Andalusia Lady Bulldogs did in the bottom of the seventh inning to erase a 10-9 deficit and earn an 11-10 victory against the visiting Opp Lady Bobcats in the season-opener.
Andalusia's Heather Self hit a one-out, RBI-single to plate Kayla Brown for the win.
Lindsey Carr tied the score at 10-10 moments earlier after reaching base on a walk. Carr moved to second when Brown reached on a bunt single. Jodi Hanchey kept the rally going with a sacrifice bunt.
Carr raced home with the tying run when the Lady Bobcats fielded Hanchey's bunt and threw it away.
Katie Howell was the next batter for Andalusia and she struck out to set the stage for Self and her game-winning hit.
The game started as a defensive gem with neither team scoring in the first inning.
Andalusia took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning when Carr drew a walk and came around to score. She scored when Self grounded out to the pitcher for the second out of the inning.
The Lady Bulldogs added three more runs in the bottom of the third inning for a 4-0 lead.
Hayden Odom started the rally with a lead-off walk. Elizabeth Smith was then hit by a pitch and awarded first base.
Ashley Johnson came up with runners on first and second and ripped a RBI-single that scored Odom.
Carr was the next batter and struck out. Kayla Brown then drew a walk. Jodi Hanchey popped up a bunt attempt that was snared by the Opp catcher for the second out of the inning.
Howell kept the Lady Bulldogs going, however, with a two-RBI single that plated Smith and Johnson. Brown was tagged out at third on the play.
The Lady Bulldogs held a 4-0 lead going into the top of the fourth.
Opp erased the lead and took a 9-4 lead. The Lady Bobcats scored nine runs on two hits, six walks, three hits batsmen and one error.
Cristen Short, Brianne Nawlin, Kim Coxwell, Crystal Scarborough, Kasey Cravey, Ashley Mock, Leslie Wade and Trinity Osborn all scored in the inning for Opp. Short scored twice.
Andalusia came back with three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to trim Opp's lead to 9-7.
Katie Tyler, Odom and Smith scored in the fourth inning for Andalusia. Johnson had a three-RBI double in the inning.
The score remained 9-7 in Opp's favor until the bottom of the sixth inning when the Lady Bulldogs scored two runs to knot the score at 9-9.
Tyler and Odom both scored in the sixth inning for the Lady Bulldogs. Odom had a RBI-triple in the inning.
Opp answered with one run in the top of the seventh to go back on top by a score of 10-9.
Ashley Mock scored for the Lady Bobcats after reaching base on a walk. Osborn had a RBI-single in the inning.
Andalusia came out in the bottom of the inning and rallied for the win.
In junior varsity action, the Andalusia JV Lady Bulldogs topped Elba 10-5 on Monday.
