Bulldogs fall to Aggies

It was a busy weekend for the Andalusia High School baseball team with road trips to Troy and Jackson.

The Bulldogs visited Troy on Friday to play the Charles Henderson Trojans. Andalusia earned a 3-0 win when the game was called in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Tyler Wilson pitched for the Bulldogs and shut down the Trojans allowing just two hits in the game. He did not give up a walk and, with the help of his defense, kept the Trojans scoreless. Wilson struck out 13 of the batters he faced in the win.

Daniel Wall paced the Bulldogs on offense with a 2-for-3 performance at the plate with a home run. He scored two runs in the 3-0 win. Cole Sightler scored the Bulldogs' other run. Will Cammack, Wilson and Wall had RBIs in the game.

The Bulldogs returned to action on Saturday when they traveled to Jackson for varsity and junior varsity games.

The varsity Bulldogs lost to the Jackson Aggies by a final score of 4-3.

Andalusia went on top 1-0 in the first inning when Trevor Mathews reached on a single and came around to score with stolen base and a RBI-single by Wilson

The Bulldogs added to the lead in the second inning when Jacob McCullough reached on an error and came around to score. Cammack had a single in the inning and Neal Patterson reached on an error.

The Aggies knotted the score at 2-2 in the bottom of the third inning when two runs scored on one hit and two errors.

The score remained tied at 2-2 until the top of the fifth inning when Cammack scored his second run of the game to give the Bulldogs a 3-2 lead.

Jackson's Aggies rallied with one run in the bottom of the sixth to tie the score. The run scored on a walk, an error and a single.

The Aggies won the game in the bottom of the seventh inning when they scored a run on a walk, a fielder's choice and three base hits. The winning run scored with one out.

Cammack pitched six innings for the Bulldogs and struck out two. He allowed three runs. Michael Miller came in to pitch in the bottom of the sixth inning and went the rest of the way, allowing one run.

In the JV game, the Bulldogs earned a 9-1 win. Cory Smith scored three runs for the Bulldogs in the win and reached base every time he came up to bat with a single, a double and two walks in the game.

Zack Chavers also scored three runs for the JV Bulldogs in the win. He had two doubles and a single in the game. He also had two RBIs in the win.

Michael Riley, Jake Brown and Mathews Mitchell also scored runs in the game. Chase Arrington and Miles Hollingsworth had one RBI each in the game.

William Mellown pitched six innings for the Bulldogs and allowed one run on four hits. He struck out four. Chavers came in and pitched the seventh inning and struck out one batter.

The Andalusia Bulldogs are slated to return to action today when they travel south to Gulf Shores to battle the Dolphins in an area game. The game is slated to begin at 5 p.m.
