All-Stars return from State Tournament

The 10-and-under Andalusia All-Star basketball team recently returned from the State Tournament where they went 1-1.

The Andalusia boys' All-Stars won their first game of the state tournament against Alexander City by a final score of 39-31. Andalusia went on top 9-4 in the first quarter and held an 18-10 lead at the halftime intermission.

In the second half, the Andalusia squad remained out in front with a 28-19 lead after three quarters of play. Andalusia went on to record a 39-31 win.

Aaron Haag paced the Andalusia team on offense with 14 points. O'Brien Curry added 10 points. D.L. Smith hit for six points in the win. Derrick King scored five points. Marcus Ingram and Corintian Sims scored two points each for Andalusia.

Jermichael Kelly was the leading scorer for Alexander City with 10 points.

In their second game of the state tournament, the Andalusia All-Stars fell to Vestavia Hills by a final score of 31-26 when their comeback bid came up just short.

The Andalusia's All-Stars got off to a slow start falling behind Vestavia Hills 9-0 in the first quarter only to rebound in the second quarter with a 10-6 run to trail by a score of 13-10 at the halftime intermission.

In the second half, the Vestavia Hills All-Stars maintained their lead in the third quarter and entered the fourth quarter with a 19-16 lead.

The Andalusia All-Stars tried to rally past Vestavia Hills in the final period, but came up just short falling by a final score of 31-26.

Haag had nine points for Andalusia. King added seven points. Smith hit for six points. Curry had four points.

The Andalusia All-Stars advanced to the State Tournament after earning the District 8 Championship earlier this month.
