Tigers cage Blue Eagles

A quick start gave the Red Level Tigers a 3-0 lead in high school baseball action against the visiting W.S. Neal Blue Eagles on Monday.

The Blue Eagles, however, pecked away at the Tigers' lead and knotted the score at 3-3 in the top of the third inning.

The Tigers clawed out two more runs and held on for a 5-3 win.

Larry Hudson started things off for Red Level with a single in the bottom of the first inning. Kyle Adams and Chaz Maloy followed him with singles.

Hudson scored on Maloy's single. Adams and Maloy scored when Joseph Harper executed a sacrifice bunt.

The Blue Eagles scored one run in the top of the second and two more in the top of the third to knot the score at 3-3.

W.S. Neal threatened to take the lead in the top of the fourth when the bases were loaded with Blue Eagles with no outs.

Chris Johnson came in to pitch for Red Level and shut down the Blue Eagles with two outs on infield flies and one via a strikeout.

Red Level went on top in the bottom of the fifth inning when Adams and Maloy scored. Adams reached on a triple and scored when Maloy reached on an error.

The Blue Eagles attempted to pick-off Maloy, but the ball got past the first baseman and Maloy raced to third base. He scored later in the inning on a wild pitch.

Johnson went the rest of the way on the mound to get the win. Johnson went three innings without giving up a run on two hits and one walk. He struck out three.

The Tigers entered the game following a loss to Excel on Saturday. The Tigers fell to the Panthers by a final score of 19-13. The JV Tigers lost 13-1 on Saturday.

Red Level's Tigers return to the diamond Wednesday when they travel to Evergreen to play the Hillcrest Jaguars beginning at 3:30 p.m.
