Lady Eagles rally past Andalusia

An ugly win is still a win and that is what the Carroll-Ozark Lady Eagles had to be thinking on their way home after earning a 5-4 victory against the Andalusia Lady Bulldogs in high school softball action Thursday.

The Lady Eagles did not score an earned run and still managed to top the Lady Bulldogs.

Andalusia had its chances. Twice the Lady Bulldogs had the bases loaded with one out and failed to score.

The Lady Eagles went on top 3-0 in the top of the first inning.

Andalusia did not answer until the bottom of the third inning when Jodi Hanchey, Katie Howell, Katie Tyler and Ashley Johnson scored to give the Lady Bulldogs a 4-3 lead.

The Lady Eagles went back on top in the top of the seventh inning when two runs scored on an error. The two runs scored with the Lady Bulldogs just one out away from earning a 4-3 victory.

The Lady Bulldogs rallied to load the bases with one out in the bottom of the seventh inning. The Lady Eagles, however, got out of the jam with two ground balls back to the pitcher.

Rachel Jones started the game pitching for the Lady Bulldogs and allowed three runs on no hits, four walks and two hit batsmen. She struck out three.

Katie Howell came in to pitch in the third and went five innings. She allowed two runs on four hits, one walk and one hit batsman. She struck out four.

The Lady Bulldogs return to the diamond at the Andalusia Sports Complex at 4 p.m. today for a doubleheader against Pleasant Home. A junior varsity game is set to begin at 4 p.m. followed by a varsity game.
