Bulldogs scalp Chiefs, 5-2

A low-scoring game played into the hands of the Andalusia Bulldogs in high school baseball action Friday.

The Bulldogs used strong pitching and solid defense along with clutch hitting for a 5-2 victory against the visiting Chiefs.

The Bulldogs broke a 0-0 tie in the bottom of the third inning when they scored three runs.

Andrew Harry started the rally with a single, but was retired when Will Cammack reached on a fielder's choice. Cammack bunted the ball and made it to first as the Chiefs threw to second for a force out.

Wesley Liles came in as a courtesy runner for Cammack and, after Neal Patterson flew out to first base, scored on an RBI-single by Tyler Wilson. Trevor Mathews moved to third on the hit after reaching on a bloop single.

Wilson's base hit put runners on first and third for Cole "Big Country" Sightler. Andalusia's designated hitter came up with an RBI-double to plate Mathews and give the Bulldogs a 2-0 lead.

Daniel Wall keep the rally going by drawing a walk to load the bases. Jake Hollingsworth was the next batter and drew a walk to plate Wilson.

The Chiefs got out of the inning when Jacob McCullough stung the ball right at the Northview second baseman who caught the line drive for the third out of the inning.

The Chiefs scored two runs in the top of the fifth inning to trim the Bulldogs' lead to one run at 3-2.

The Andalusia players put together another rally and scored one run in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Sightler reached on a double, moved to second on a sacrifice fly and scored on a ground out by Jake Hollingsworth.

The Bulldogs tacked on another insurance run in the bottom of the sixth inning when Neal Patterson reached on a single and came around to score on an RBI-double by Mathews.

Cammack was the winning pitcher allowing two runs on five hits and one walk in seven innings. He struck out five in the game and hit one batter.

The Bulldogs return to action today when they travel to Thomasville for two games.
