Lady Bulldogs finish third at sectionals

Three high school softball teams from Covington County were able to complete their sectional tournaments this past weekend while three other teams had to wait until Monday to play ball.
The Andalusia Lady Bulldogs, Opp Lady Bobcats and Straughn Lady Tigers competed in sectional tournaments this past weekend.
The Lady Bulldogs finished in third just missing advancing to the sub-state round of the state playoffs.
The Lady Bulldogs started the sectional tournament on fire winning against Monroe County by a final score of 13-3 in five innings.
Katie Howell was 2-for-2 in the game with one RBI. Kobe Smith scored two runs as a courtesy runner for the Andalusia pitcher.
Heather Self was 2-for-3 in the win with one run scored and one RBI. Ashley Johnson was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and one RBI. Lindsey Carr was 1-for-3 with one RBI. Rachel Jones scored one run as courtesy runner for the Andalusia catcher.
Katie Tyler was 2-for-2 with two runs scored and two RBIs in the game. Hayden Odom was 2-for-3 with one run scored and one RBI. Hannah Bush was 2-for-2 in the game with
three runs scored as a designated hitter for the Lady Bulldogs. Kacey Russell also scored a run in the game.
In the second game, the Lady Bulldogs topped Jackson 8-3 on Friday. Howell was 1-for-2 with Smith scoring two runs as a courtesy runner. Odom had a big game going 3-for-3 in the win with one run scored and two RBIs. Kayla Brown and Carr had one RBI each in the win. Johnson scored two runs. Self and Tyler scored one run each for the Lady Bulldogs.
In the third game, the Lady Bulldogs fell to Gulf Shores by a final score of 10-0 in six innings. The Lady Bulldogs had just four hits in the game. Self, Johnson, Bush and Jodi Hanchey had one hit each for Andalusia.
The loss sent the Lady Bulldogs into the loser's bracket where they fell to UMS-Wright by a final score of 8-3.
Carr was one 1-for-4 in the game with Jones scoring as a courtesy runner. Odom was 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI. Brown was 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Bush was 0-2 in the game, but scored one run.
The Lady Bulldogs ended the season with a record of 14-14.
OPP LADY BOBCATS
FINISH FOURTH
The Opp Lady Bobcats lost their first game of their sectional tournament to Geneva by a final score of 8-0 but battled back to finish fourth.
Opp topped Dale County 7-5 with Andrea Ennis scoring two runs as a courtesy runner for Meredith Mikel. Trinity Osborn also scored two runs in the win. Brianne Nawlin, Kim Coxwell and Crystal Scarbrough each scored one run.
Opp faced Daleville in the third game and won by a final score of 7-5.
Coxwell scored two runs in the win. She and Christen Short both scored in the sixth inning to break a 5-5 tie.
Kelley Davis, Scarbrough, Tara Richburg and Ashley Mock also scored one run in the win.
In a rematch against Geneva, the Lady Bobcats lost by a final score of 11-0 in six innings.
Ashford won the sectional tournament with Headland in second. Both teams advanced to the sub-state round of the playoffs. Geneva finished in third.
STRAUGHN FINISHES
IN FOURTH PLACE
The Straughn Lady Tigers finished fourth at the Class 3A, Section 1 Tournament in Thomasville.
The Lady Tigers won their first against Pike County by a final score 17-7 in five innings. Ali Taunton scored three runs in the game. Joy Jones and Andrea Sport scored three runs each in the win. Laci Grissett added two runs for Straughn. Andrea Cochran and Ashley Turner scored one run each.
In the second game, the Straughn Lady Tigers fell to Elba by a final score of 10-0 in five innings.
Straughn rebounded with a 17-6 win against W.S. Neal. Turner and Codi Yelverton scored three runs each in the victory. Taunton, Cochran and Cas Sasser scored two runs each in the game.
The win sent the Lady Tigers up against the T.R. Miller Lady Tigers. T.R. Miller won the game by a final score of 5-0.
