Andalusia Dixie Major Head Coach Steve Bryant was honored at the AlaBCA (Alabama Baseball Coaches Association) Coaches Convention held at the Birmingham Sheraton Perimeter Hotel in January.

Bryant was named the Dixie Majors (17-18's) Coach of the Year for 2002 at the banquet. Other summer league head coaches who received honors included Larry Tubbs. Tubbs, who is the head coach of the Dothan Post 12 American Legion team, won his fourth consecutive state title. Tony Hendrix, head coach of the Mobile Rawdogs, won the Babe Ruth Coach of the Year Award.

The annual AlaBCA Coaches Convention also featured a number of guest speakers. LBW Community College Assistant Baseball Coach Chris Hutcheson was among the guest speakers.

Hutcheson discussed how coaches can strengthen and condition pitchers. He even gave a demonstration with a couple of LBW pitchers.

The AlaBCA is currently gearing up for the fourth annual Underclassman Showcase. Four regional workouts will be held for high school baseball players who are upcoming juniors or seniors.

A workout will be held for players in District 1 & 2 at Faulkner State Community College in Bay Minette on Thursday, June 5 with registration beginning at 7:30 a.m.
