The season began with a tournament win for the Covington County Babe Ruth baseball team. Now, the squad is out to win a few more games this week.

The Covington County Babe Ruth 17- and 18-year-old Babe Ruth baseball team hosts its counterpart from Brewton today. The two teams will square off at 7 p.m. on the baseball diamond at Straughn School.

The Covington County squad started the season with a strong showing at the sixth annual Crispy Chick Memorial Weekend Baseball Tournament in Opp.

The Covington County team won the senior division of the tournament with an 11-5 victory against Opp in the championship game Sunday.

The Covington County squad went 3-1 overall at the tournament with the only loss coming against Troy.

Covington County won against Elba by a final score of 5-4 and topped Opp 6-5. Troy outscored Covington County 12-0.

The 16-year-old Covington County Babe Ruth team will be in action on Thursday at 7 p.m. in Daleville.

Both squads will play Saturday when they take on South Monroe beginning at 11 a.m. in Frisco City.
