Andy Stingrays strike Tiger Sharks

Ready, set, BANG!

The 2003 season started with a bang for the Andalusia Swim League Stingrays with a 2,509-1,743 win against the Troy Tiger Sharks in a meet on Monday.

The Stingrays' boys topped the Tiger Sharks 1,080 points to 468. The Stingrays' girls earned 1,429 points to the Tiger Sharks 1,275.

8-AND-UNDER DIVISION

Emma Garner finished second in the girls' division for 17 points with a time of 2:13.31. She also had a first-place finish in the 25-yard breaststroke. Kennedy Thompson, Haley Weaver and Elisabeth Christensen also earned points for the Stingrays, finishing in the top 11. Emma Garner also finished in first place in the 25-yard butterfly.

Meredith Grace Kerr also got a first-place ribbon at the meet with a time of 24.36 in the 25-yard freestyle. Haley Weaver, Kennedy Thompson and Elisabeth Christensen also earned points in the race. Meredith Grace Kerr won another first-place in the 25-yard backstroke. Haley Weaver and Kennedy Thompson also finished in the top 10. Meredith Grace Kerr finished third in the 50-yard freestyle.

In the 8-and-under 100-yard individual medley Christopher Smith earned 20 points for the Stingrays with a first-place finish. He completed his swim in 2:17.66.

Christopher Smith also earned a second-place finish in breaststroke and a third-place finish in freestyle for the Stingrays. Will Parker, Chris Riley, Jacob Peek, Ben Garner and Ian Peek also finished in the top eight in breaststroke.

Dalton Watson finished second in freestyle with Riley in third for the Stingrays. Jacob Peek, Zach Parker, Ben Garner and Ian Peek also had top-eight finishes. Dalton Watson finished in first place in the 25-yard butterfly.

Will Parker earned a second-place finish in the 25-yard backstroke. Dalton Watson, Chris Riley, Jacob Peek, Zach Parker and Ben Garner finished in the top 10. Will Parker also finished second in the 50-yard freestyle.

Meredith Grace Kerr, Haley Weaver, Emma Garner and Kennedy Thompson finished second in the 100-yard medley relay. The same four teamed up for a second-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle relay.

Two relay teams placed for the boys. Jacob Peek, Christopher Smith and Dalton Watson won the 100-yard medley relay. Zach Parker, Ben Garner, Chris Riley and Ian Peek finished in second. The Stingrays also swept the top two spots in the 100-yard freestyle relay. Will Parker, Chris Riley, Christopher Smith and Dalton Watson won. Zach Parker, Ben Garner, Jacob Peek and Ian Peek finished in second place.

9- TO 10-YEAR-OLD

DIVISION

In the 9- to 10-year-old 100-yard individual medley, Stephen Nevill finished second and Tom Cook was third for a combined 33 points for the Stingrays. Haley Moody finished third in the girls' division of the age group for 16 points.

Haley Moody finished in first place in the 50-yard breaststroke. Catherine Grace Searcy, Taylor Donaldson and Lauren Beasley also placed. In the boys' 50-yard breaststroke, Stinson Thompson won. Jordan Theus was in second followed by Andrew Spry in third.

The boys also did well in the 50-yard freestyle event with Brock Dorman winning. Tom Cook was in second followed by Stephen Nevill in third. Stinson Thompson, Jordan Theus and Andrew Spry also placed. Haley Moody was the top finishers for the girls in fourth place. Taylor Donaldson, Catherine Grace Searcy, Ashley Beck and Lauren Beasley also placed in the top 10.

In the butterfly events, Brock Dorman was second and Tom Cook third for the Stingrays. Hayden Dunn finished in second place in the girls' butterfly with Lauren Beasley in third followed by Catherine Grace Searcy and Ashley Beck.

The Stingray boys swept the top five positions in the 50-yard backstroke as follows: Stephen Nevill; Brock Dorman; Jordan Theus; Stinson Thompson and Andrew Spry. Ashley Beck finished in third for the girls and Taylor Donaldson fifth.

In the relays, the boys won first-place honors in the 200-yard medley with the girls in third. The boys also won the 200-yard freestyle relay. The girls finished in second for the Stingrays.

In the 10-and-under 15-yard kick board race, Elisabeth Christensen finished in second.

11- TO 12-YEAR-OLD

DIVISION

Christina Christensen earned first-place honors in the 11- and 12-year-old individual medley with a time of 1:50.83 to garner 20 points for the team.

Addie Garner won first-place honors in the 50-yard breaststroke with Haley Dorman in second and Starla Jones in third. Becca Cory, Melissa Riley and Jessica Smith rounded out the top six.

Starla Jones finished in first place in the 50-yard freestyle with Becca Cory in second and Lindsey Weaver in third. Also earning points for the Stingrays were Addie Garner, Shelby Corbell, Haley Dorman, Melissa Riley, Sara Beasley, Christina Christensen, Jessica Smith, Amber Thomas and Tally Morrow.

Melissa Riley won first place in the 50-yard butterfly with Sara Beasley in third.

Becca Cory won the 50-yard backstroke with Lindsey Weaver in second and Addie Garner in third. Shelby Corbell, Jessica Smith and Amber Thomas also placed.

Starla Jones and Christina Christensen finished first and second, respectively, in the 100-yard freestyle.

The girls relay teams finished first and second in both the medley and freestyle events.

Ethan Cook was the "man" for the Stingrays in the 11- and 12-year-old division. He finished in first place in the 50-yard freestyle and the 100-yard freestyle events. He also finished second in the 50-yard backstroke.

13- TO 14-YEAR-OLD

DIVISION

In the 13- and 14-year-old girls' division Nicole Couch finished first in the individual medley for 20 points and Lindsay Jones came home in second for 17 points.

Morgan Watson had three first-place finishes for the Stingrays. She finished first in the 50-yard breaststroke, 50-yard freestyle and 50-yard backstroke.

Erin St. John and Kristin Hudson finished second and third in the 50-yard breaststroke. Erin St. John was also second in the 50-yard freestyle with Kristin Hudson in fourth and Nicole Couch in fifth. Erin St. John was also second in the 50-yard backstroke.

Nicole Couch won the 50-yard butterfly with a first-place time of 48.58. Lindsey Jones finished in first place in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 1:41.80.

The girls' relay teams finished first in both the 200-yard medley relay and the 200-yard freestyle relay.

Nav Tandon won the boys' 50-yard breaststroke with Chris Atkins in second. In the 50-yard freestyle the Stingrays took the top three places with Nav Tandon in first, Tyler Moody in second and Chris Atkins in third.

Tyler Moody won the 50-yard butterfly with a time of 46.59. He also won the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 1:30.07.

15- TO 18-YEAR-OLD

DIVISION

Brandie Ammons finished second in the girls' 50-yard breaststroke and fourth in the 50-yard freestyle for the Stingrays.

Justin Moody finished first in the 50-yard boys' butterfly. He also had second-place finishes in the 50-yard freestyle and the 100-yard freestyle.
