AHSAA names 36 baseball All-Stars

The top 36 upcoming senior prep baseball players in the state have been named to the North-South teams for the seventh annual Alabama All-Star Sports Week here July 14-19, according to an announcement by the Alabama High School Athletic Directors & Coaches Association.
Virtually all of the junior athletes selected will be signing college scholarships or entering the 2004 professional baseball draft during the next 12 months. The two teams will open up the week’s all-star games on Monday, July 14, with a 4 p.m. doubleheader.
The Sports Week will feature in-state all-star games in volleyball, boys and girls basketball, football, baseball, softball and soccer. The event will also include clinics and sessions for coaches, athletic directors, cheerleader coaches and officials. A product exposition and other related activities would be held throughout the week.
The coaches for the SOUTH team are Jerry Wright of Baldwin County, Jody Ryan of Houston Academy, Hal Ellison of Isabella and Wes Rogers of Elmore County.
Members of the South baseball team include:
Infielders: David Rupple of Foley, Guy Martin of St. James, Lee Huggins of Baldwin County, Jordan Brewer of Benjamin Russell, Jordin Lindsey of Davidson and Central-Phenix City’s Brandon Atkins, who will be unable to play because of recent shoulder surgery.
Outfielders: Brian Piazza of Jeff Davis, Garett Mims of Jemison, Brett Barber of Daphne, Justin Barrett of Wetumpka and Robert Hendrich of St. Paul’s.
Pitchers: Cliff Mullins of Fairhope, Pete Van Horn of Charles Henderson, Ryan Ellison of Isabella, Eric Evans of UMS-Wright, Michael McNair of Montgomery Academy and Jordan Steele of Dadeville.
Catchers: Ben Shelley of Houston Academy, Cliff Downey of Satsuma and Kyle Holder of Excel.
Coaching the NORTH all-star baseball team will be Brian Lindsey of Muscle Shoals, Alan Watkins of Austin, Vaughn Lee of Cleburne County and Mike O’Berry of Pelham.
The members of the North baseball team are:
Infielders: Davey Blackburn of Shades Valley, Brandon Lee of Cullman, Casey Nichols of Hackleburg, Thomas Nelson of Weaver, William Lichtner of Huntsville and Martin Warren of Austin.
Outfielders: Clay Whittemore of Cullman, Clay Kizzire of Clay-Chalkville and Bear Burnett of Oak Mountain.
Pitchers: Chris Law of Saks, Shaun Sheehan of Pelham, Chris Wallace of Buckhorn, David Robertson of Central-Tuscaloosa, Wes Henderson of Oxford, Devin Burden of Colbert County, Ty Latham of Hewitt-Trussville, Brandon Flaherty of Clay-Chalkville and Jordan Conley of Muscle Shoals.
Catcher: Brint Hardy of Homewood and Desmond Fields of West End-Birmingham.
The Alabama High School Athletic Directors and Coaches Association operates under the auspices of the Alabama High School Athletic Association. Membership includes coaches of all AHSAA sports as well as administrators of member schools.
