Monroe H. Sharpe

Funeral services for Monroe H. Sharpe, 75, of Opelika were held Tuesday,

June 24, 2003 at 2 p.m. at Jeffcoat-Trant, Chapel Lebanon Presbyterian Church Cemetery. Burial followed in the Buffalo Community with Rev. Steve Scoggins officiating.

Mr. Sharpe, who died Sunday, June 22, 2003 at East Alabama Medical Ceneter, was born on Jan. 15, 1928 in Chambers County.

He graduated from Straughn High School in Covington County. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran. After his honorable discharge from the Navy he lived in Andalusia where he owned and operated a Tire Service Center. Mr. Sharpe and his family have lived in Opelika since 1964. He was retired from Uniroyal Tire Company, and had been a member of Opelika First Baptist Church since 1964. Pallbearers were his grandsons, and sons-in-law. Honorary pallbearers were the Freedom Sunday School Class.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years Mildred T. Sharpe of Opelika; two daughters, Vicki (Jim) White of Opelika, Joy (David) DeLonay of Wetumpka; two sons, Kenneth (Vicky) Sharpe of Alexander City, Larry (Valerie) Sharpe of Nashville, Tenn.; one sister, Era Mae Wright of Franklin, Tenn.; one brother, Charles (Sally) Sharpe of San Antonio, Texas; six grandchildren, Wendy Seay, Holly Moore, Tony Sharpe, David Sharpe, Joshua Sachar and Drew White; three great-grandchildren, Austin, Amber and Morgan; two special friends, Cecil and Pat Tye; a host of nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to the Bethany House of Hospice, 665 Opelika Road. Jeffcoat-Trant Funeral Home was directing.
