Take time to see the good things

With all the bad news that's been reported in the past few days, we thought it would be only fitting to take this time to reflect on the good things in and around our county that have happened, and are continuing to happen.
The annual Florala Masonic Celebration is one of the best things going on right now.
This family event features a wide variety of activities for kids of all ages. Monday, an "Anything Goes" parade featured dozens of children in costumes and self-built floats parading down Fifth Ave. This parade was followed by a "water battle" where children were able to relieve themselves of some of the heat by blasting each other with a refreshing dose of cool water.
Later in the week, more activities will be held, culminating with a gigantic fireworks display over Lake Jackson.
And who doesn't love fireworks?
Yes, there has been plenty of bad news over the past few days, but every now and then, we all need to step back and enjoy the simpler things in life. The things that help take our minds off our troubles.
The Masonic Celebration is one such event.
We should also take the time to enjoy the sunshine. As hokey as it sounds, it has been several days since Covington County has been able to enjoy the beauty that surrounds us.
Take a trip to Gantt Lake, Point A, or one of the two Lake Jacksons, Open Pond or Blue Lake. The high water levels are receding to normal levels, and people can get out and enjoy themselves once again.
In a time when so much is made of the bad news, it's nice to take time to reflect on the good. Take this opportunity to take your mind off of what's wrong with the world and reflect on what's right with it.
You'll feel better, if only for a day.
