Andalusia tops County, 10-6

Three early runs and a strong pitching performance by Andalusia's Jeffry Etheridge powered the Andalusia 13-year-old babe Ruth All-Stars to a 10-6 win Thursday.

The win earns Andalusia a date with the Opp All-Stars at 8 p.m. tonight. The loss drops Covington County into the losers' bracket where they will face the loser of the Andalusia-Opp game at 4 p.m. on Saturday.

Andalusia went on top 3-0 in the first inning against Covington County Thursday. Joe Kyser and James Hogg earned back-to-back, one-out walks. Etheridge followed them in the batting order and reached on an error. Nick Copper came up to bat with the bases loaded and one out and reached on an infield single that plated Kyser. Tommy Wright had a two-RBI single later in the inning for Andalusia to score Hogg and Etheridge for an early 3-0 lead.

The score remained 3-0 until the bottom of the second when Covington County scored one run Leonard Palmer reached on an error to lead off the inning and came around to score. He scored on an RBI-single by Garrett Roland.

Covington County knotted the score at 3-3 in the bottom of the third when Michael Peterson and Cody Holmes both scored. T.J. Fleming had an RBI-single in the inning and Holmes scored on an error.

Andalusia answered with seven runs in the top of the fourth inning for a 10-3 lead.

Ryan Godwin reached on a one-out throwing error to start the Andalusia rally. Brannon Bryan also reached on an error in the inning. Both Godwin and Bryan came around to score on a two-RBI double by Hogg after Kyser drew a walk to load the bases.

Etheridge had an RBI-single to plate Kyser. Cooper followed with a two-RBI single that scored Hogg and Etheridge. An error allowed Cooper to advance to second and he scored on a hit-and-run play when David Dove singled into left field. Dove scored later in the inning when Taylor Wrench laced an RBI-double down the left field line.

Covington County scored one run in the bottom of the fourth inning when Roland reached on an error and scored on an RBI-single by Tyler Patterson.

Tanner Carter scored a run for Covington County in the bottom of the sixth inning to cut Andalusia's lead to 10-5. He reached on a walk and scored on a wild pitch after advancing to second on a passed ball and third on a ground out by Fleming.

Covington County managed one more run in the bottom of the seventh inning when Ryne Taylor reached on a walk, moved to second on a passed ball, went to third on a ground out and scored on a balk by Etheridge.

Andalusia, however, held on for a 10-6 victory.

Etheridge pitched a complete game allowing six runs in seven innings on six hits and five walks. He struck out 11 in the game.

Holmes pitched the first four innings for Covington County before giving way to Fleming. Fleming pitched the last three innings of the game for Covington County.
