Sub-district softball tournaments continue

Andalusia All-Star softball teams are busy competing in sub-district tournaments in Andalusia, Opp and Enterprise.

9- AND 10-YEAR-OLDS

The 9- and 10-year-old Andalusia All-Stars are a perfect 2-0 in sub-district tournament play in Opp with wins against Greenville and Enterprise.

Andalusia topped Greenville in first-round action by a final score of 8-5. Tiffany "T.D." Taylor, Lexie Keahey and Kaitlyn Wiggins combined their pitching efforts in the win. Kathryn Dozier, Samantha Greene and Amy-Caroline Riley scored two runs each in the win. Wiggins and Shauda Martin scored one run each.

Andalusia edged Enterprise 4-2 in a second-round winner's bracket game with Taylor pitching a complete game. She allowed one run and recorded 10 strikeouts. She got out of two bases-loaded jams by striking out three consecutive batters in two innings. Andalusia scored all four runs in the third inning with Dozier, Riley, Meagan Pugh and Martin scoring one run each.

Andalusia is slated to play the host Opp All-Stars next at the sports complex in Opp.

11- AND 12-YEAR-OLDS

The 11- and 12-year-old Andalusia All-Stars edged Troy 6-5 in a first-round game. MaryBeth Arrington pitched a complete game allowing five runs on four hits and three walks. She struck out 13 in the win.

Erin Byrd scored two runs for Andalusia in the victory. Katie Bass, Arrington, D'Amber Chambers and Stephanie Bracewell scored one run each. Bass had two RBIs in the win. Kayla Teel, Arrington, Kimberly Teel and Kayla Wells had one RBI each.

In their second game, the Andalusia All-Stars fell to Enterprise 12-2. Arrington and Chambers scored runs for Andalusia.

The tournament is being played in Enterprise.

13- TO 15-YEAR-OLDS

The Andalusia 13- to 15-year-old All-Stars dropped a first-round game to Enterprise. Andalusia is slated to play Luverne next. The tournament is being played at the Andalusia Sports Complex.
