Andy softball teams win

The Andalusia 13- to 15-year-old softball All-Stars topped Luverne 15-5 in five innings Tuesday to set up a second game late Tuesday night in sub-district tournament play.

Andalusia fell behind 3-0 in the top of the first inning only to rally in the bottom of the inning. Andalusia scored seven runs for a 7-3 lead after one inning of play.

Hannah Bush, Jamila Couch, Ragen Griffin, Lauren Carroll, Miriam Fagerstrom, Beth Benson and Courtney Duke each scored in the first inning for Andalusia. Griffin had two RBIs and Carroll had one in the inning.

Andalusia went on top 10-3 in the bottom of the second when Couch, Carroll and Fagerstrom scored again. Griffin and Benson had RBIs in the inning.

Andalusia held a 14-4 lead after three innings of play when Bush, J. Armstrong, Couch and Fagerstrom each scored in the third. Couch, Griffin and Carroll had RBIs in the inning.

Bush provided the winning run in the bottom of the fourth inning, but only after the Andalusia defense shut down Luverne in the top of the fifth for a 15-5 win in 10 innings via the 10-run rule.

The Andalusia 11- and 12-year-old softball All-Stars defeated Opp 12-0 Tuesday night in Enterprise as Kimberly Teel and Stephanie Bracewell combined to pitch a no-hitter. For complete coverage of the game see the Thursday edition of the Star-News.
