Andalusia All-Stars bounce East Brewton

The 11- and 12-year-old Andalusia Little League All-Stars recorded a 9-3 win against East Brewton's All-Stars Monday night at the District 5 Tournament in Brewton to avoid elimination. The loss eliminated the East Brewton All-Stars.

Andalusia's All-Stars fell behind 1-0 in the bottom of the first inning and trailed 2-0 after two innings of play. The Andalusia players rallied in the top of the third to take a lead they would not relinquish.

Andalusia scored three runs in the top of the third inning to go on top 3-1. Leslie James started the scoring spree when he reached on a walk to lead off the inning.

Brent Shiver followed James with a

bunt single. Christopher Kelly came up big later in the inning with a one-out, two-RBI triple. Kelly scored later in the inning.

East Brewton knotted the score at 3-3 in the bottom of the inning, but could not take the lead.

Andalusia's All-Stars went back on top in the top of the fourth inning when James reached on a single and came around to score in the inning. He scored on Shiver's RBI-triple to give the Andalusia squad the lead for good.

Andalusia, however, was not finished scoring runs.

Four more players circled the bases in the top of the fifth for a commanding 8-3 advantage against East Brewton.

Kelly reached on a lead-off triple and scored on Jeffrey Moore's single. Moore scored later in the inning along with Jay McCord and Nate Mack. McCord reached base when he was hit by a pitch. Mack got on board via a walk.

Brandon Keel had a big hit in the inning. He ripped a three-RBI double in the frame to plate Moore, McCord and Mack.

Kelly scored his third run of the game in the top of the fifth inning after reaching base on a double and stealing third.

Shiver was the winning pitcher for Andalusia. He allowed three runs on four hits and seven walks. He struck out 10 batters in the six-inning game.

The Andalusia All-Stars were scheduled to play the Opp All-Stars in an elimination game Tuesday night in Brewton as the District 5 Tournament continues. Andalusia lost to Opp by a final score of 8-6.

The Covington County All-Stars were slated to play the Brewton All-Stars in the late game Tuesday. Covington County won against Brewton by a final score of 6-3 in eight innings.

Brewton plays Opp at 7 p.m. tonight with the winner playing Covington County at 7 p.m. on Thursday in the District 5 Championship Game.
