Members of the American Legion Post 80 baseball team were on the road Wednesday travelling to Madison after a short workout.

The players and coaches were heading north for a banquet to be held Wednesday evening for the American Legion baseball teams who won district championships and the right to compete in the state tournament being hosted by the City of Madison.

The tournament kicked off last night with a banquet at the American Legion Post in Madison.

The banquet was an opportunity for the players and coaches from the different teams to meet and greet each other. It was also a time for business with a drawing held to fill out the bracket for the state tournament which begins today.

Post 80's first game of the state tournament will be at 4 p.m. today against a team from Ozark. The winner will play again at 7 p.m. on Friday against the winner of a game between Post 12 and Post 237. The loser will fall into the loser's bracket and play at 1 p.m. on Friday.

Post 80 earned a spot in the state tournament with a win against the Post 133 team from the Millbrook area in a district championship series on Sunday.

Post 80 went 2-1 against Post 133 at the district tournament.

Post 80 won a rain-delayed game against Post 133 early in the tournament and then squared off against the team from the Millbrook area again on Sunday in a championship game.

Post 133 won the game on Sunday by a final score of 7-3 to force the "if game."

The winner of the "if game" would earn the right to advance to the state tournament as the district champion.

Post 90 went on top 2-0 in the bottom of the third inning en route to a 3-1 win in the district championship game.

The members of the Post 80 squad are Trevor Mathews, Justin Bracewell, Tyler Wilson, Neal Patterson, Cole Sightler, Chaz Maloy, Will Cammack, Scotty McCraney, Michael Dutton, Chase Glisson, Chris Johnson, Brad Sanders, Chase Arrington, Matthew Mitchell, Zack Chavers, Holt Parker and Drew Mims.
