Babe Ruth teams arrive in town

All 10 of the 13- to 15-year-old Babe Ruth baseball teams participating in the 2003 Southeast Regional Tournament in Andalusia checked-in at LBW Community College on Thursday.

Each team had an orientation session and was given a tour of the LBW Community College campus before being dismissed to prepare for the Champions Banquet.

The 10 teams participating in the tournament hail from seven states, including Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee, Florida, South Carolina, North Carolina and Virginia.

The tournament begins at 9 a.m. today at Crum Foshee Field on the campus of LBW Community College.

The first game of the day pits the Alabama champions from Valley against South Carolina.

The second game pits the Opp squad against the Florida champions from Tallahassee.

The third game is set for 1 p.m. when the Andalusia team takes the diamond against the Tennessee state champs from Franklin County.

Opp returns to the diamond at 5:30 p.m. for a game against the West North Carolina team.

The final game of the day is slated for 8 p.m. and pits the Virginia state champs against the Andalusia squad.

Four games will be played Saturday, Sunday and Monday beginning at 10 a.m. each day. There are two games set for Tuesday. There are four games on Wednesday, including the championship game at 8 p.m.

The winner of the Southeast regional Tournament will advance to the World Series in North Dakota.
