New rule means more football for high school teams.

The Legislative Council of the Alabama High School Athletic Association approved an additional jamboree or non-season game for the football teams of member schools in March.

The new measure means teams may now participate in a spring and preseason exhibition game.

Four teams from Covington County are taking advantage of the new rule by scheduling preseason games for next week.

Straughn will be the first team to hit the gridiron with an exhibition game against Geneva. The Tigers will host the game. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Thursday.

Three teams from Covington County will play preseason games on Friday, Aug. 22.

The Andalusia Bulldogs will travel to East Brewton for a date with the W.S. Neal Blue Eagles. The game pits first-year Andalusia Head Coach Tom Causey against first-year W.S. Neal Head Coach Shane Smothers. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m.

The Red Level Tigers travel to Luverne for a preseason game next Friday. The game will kick off at 7:30 p.m.

The Florala Wildcats play J.U. Blacksher at 7 p.m. on Friday. The Wildcats are hosting the game.
