Post 80 returns from regionals

A state championship was fresh in the minds of the American Legion Post 80 baseball players' minds as they travelled to Troy late last month for the Southeast Regional Tournament.

The Post 80 team began the regional with a 13-10 win against a squad from Albany, Ga. The Post 80 team, however, dropped its next two games.

In the game against Albany, Ga., Post 80 scored eight runs in the first two innings for an early 8-6 lead.

Trevor Mathews and Drew Mims both scored in the first inning for Post 80.

In the second inning, Chase Arrington came around to score along with Mathews, Mims, Neal Patterson, Cole Sightler and Chaz Maloy.

Three more players scored in the third inning for Post 80. Michael Dutton, Tyler Wilson, and Patterson scored in the third frame for Post 80 for an 11-7 lead.

The Albany, Ga. squad mounted a rally and got within one run of Post 80 at 11-10 going into the sixth inning.

Post 80 added two insurance runs en route to a 13-10 victory. Sightler and Zack Chavers scored in the bottom of the sixth inning for Post 80. Arrington had a two-RBI single.

Brad Sanders was the winning pitcher with Holt Parker getting the save.

In its second game of the regional, Post 80 fell to a team from Dunedin, Fla. by a final score of 7-5.

Post 80's runs came from Scotty McCraney, Trevor Mathews, Drew Mims, Neal Patterson and Michael Dutton.

In Post 80's final game of the regional, West Alabama got revenge with a 7-2 win. Post 80 defeated the West Alabama at the State Tournament en route to winning the state crown.

Post 80's runs in the loss to West Alabama came from Zack Chavers and Chase Glisson.
