JV Bulldogs top Jags

The Andalusia High School JV Bulldogs outscored the visiting Hillcrest-Evergreen JV Jaguars 42-8 Monday night for a big win.
Jerome Tomberlin started the Bulldogs' scoring spree with an 81-yard touchdown run in the first quarter. The two-point attempt, failed and the Bulldogs were out in front 6-0.
D'Andre Lee scored the second touchdown of the night on a long run to make the score 12-0 in favor of the Bulldogs. Tomberlin added a two-point conversion for a 14-0 lead.
Lee was just getting warmed up.
He scored his second touchdown in the second quarter on a 39-yard run. The two-point attempt was no good, but Andalusia was on top 20-0 with 3:00 left in the half.
The score remained 20-0 at the half.
Cory Smith had an interception in the second half to set up the offense. Zach Jones had a big game on defense with several tackles. He also put constant pressure on the Hillcrest quarterback.
Lee scored his third touchdown of the game with 3:15 remaining in the third quarter on a 15-yard run. Tomberlin outran the Jag defense into the corner of the end zone for a two-point conversion to give the Bulldogs a 28-0 lead.
Hillcrest scored its only points after the quarterback fumbled the ball and a teammate picked it up and raced 70 yards for a touchdown. He added a two-point conversion to get the Jags on the scoreboard trailing Andalusia 28-8.
The BUlldogs' next score came on a rare pass attempt with Matt Mellown finding a wide open Wes Boatwright for a touchdown. The two-point attempt was no good. Andalusia was on top 34-8 with 7:37 left to play in the game.
Lee scored his final touchdown of the game with 25 seconds left to play. He then added a two-point conversion for a 42-8 Andalusia lead.
The JV Bulldogs return to action on Monday, Sept. 22 against Hillcrest in Evergreen. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.
The Andalusia Middle School football game originally scheduled for Thursday has been cancelled.
