Rev. Charles Edward Oikle

Rev. Charles Edward Oikle, 71, of Andalusia and formerly of Georgiana died Saturday, August 30, 2003 in a Montgomery hospital.

Charles retired from the Army as a Master Sergeant, serving two tours of Vietnam, Korea and Indochina. He received medals for valor among other awards. Upon retirement from the Army, Charles was called to the ministry and served a higher calling for over 30 years. He pastored the Georgiana Pentacostal Holiness Church for 12 years and most recently in Andalusia.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Frances Oikle.

Survivors include his wife, Glinda Oikle of Andalusia; two daughters, Lynn (Alton) Marshall of Rose Pine, La., and Lana Oswald of Leesville, La.; two sons, Larry (Becky) Oikle of Georgiana and Charles (Missy) Oikle of Leesville, La.; two step-daughters, Deborah (David) Spivey of Andalusia and Brenda (Kenneth) Gray of Kingsland, Ga.; four sisters, Elsie Jayroe of South Carolina, Margie Stoute, Joan Treirs and Lela Murby, all of Ontario, Toronto, Canada; seven grandchildren; five step-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, September 2, 2003 at Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed in Oakwood Cemetery with full military honors.

Charles was a respected member of the community, a loving husband, father and grandfather. He will be missed by his family and friends. Heaven has received one of God’s most humble servants by his passing.

Dorothy Juanita Smith

Dorothy Juanita Smith, 67, of Andalusia died Monday, September 1, 2003 in a Birmingham Hospital.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, September 4, 2003 at Keahey Funeral Home with Brother Dewayne Seay and Brother Monroe Sasser officiating. Special music was provided by Buddy Gass and Linda Linton, Leigh Bullard, Beth Tisdale and accompanied by pianist Bobby Gass. Burial followed in the Babbie Baptist Church Cemetery.

Survivors include son and daughter-in-law, Larry C. and Christine Smith of Andalusia; daughter and son-in-law, Laurie and Randy Ray of Opp; brothers and sisters-in-law, Don and Ellen Bullard of Opp and Herscel and Mildred Bullard of Babbie; sisters and brothers-in-law, Shirley and Lamar Steed of Brundidge and

Hazel and Albert Conway of Jack; sister-in-law, Ruth Bullard, of Cumming, Ga.; three grandchildren, Bradley Smith, Brandon Ray and Allison Smith.

She was preceded in death by her husband Homer Smith and her brother, John Henry Bullard Jr.

Pallbearers were James Bullard, John Johnson, Joe Williams Mark Steed, Rusty Evans and Marvin Bullard.
