At least two people died as a result of injuries incurred in a one-vehicle wreck Monday afternoon between Onycha and Florala, according to Covington County Sheriff Anthony Clark. The wreck occurred when the vehicle, a Cadillac with Georgia license tags, apparently left the road while traveling north, just past the rest stop,

and struck a tree.

The driver and the front seat passenger were killed, while a small child and a woman believed to be the child's grandmother in the back seat were injured and taken to Mizell Memorial Hospital.

Clark did not know yet if the two would be taken on to another hospital.

He estimated the toddler's age at three years and said he believed the child would survive, but he did not know the condition of the grandmother.

Names and medical conditions were not known at press time. Alabama State Trooper James Davis is handling the investigation.
