AMS Bulldogs sweep Eagles

The Andalusia Middle School 7th-grade girls' and boys' basketball teams tipped off the 2003 season with wins against the visiting Coppinville Eagles last night.

DOUBLE UP LADY EAGLES

The Lady Bulldogs defeated the visitors from Enterprise 36-18.

Andalusia went on top 10-6 in the first six-minute quarter and never looked back en route to the victory.

The Lady Bulldogs held an 18-8 lead at halftime of the season-opening game.

The Lady Bulldogs outscored Coppinville 13-5 in the third period to increase the lead to 31-13.

Both teams scored five points in the fourth quarter with the Lady Bulldogs coasting to a 36-18 win, doubling the point production of the visiting Lady Eagles.

Jereesa Curry paced the Lady Bulldogs on offense with 15 points. Blanche Alverson also hit double figures in scoring with 10 points against Coppinville.

Also scoring for the Lady Bulldogs were Chantavia Lawrence (4), Jasmine Peacock (2), Janiqua Felton (2), Shereakia Dorsey (2) and Melissa Stroud (1).

Cassie Wilcox was the leading scorer for Coppinville with eight points. Aston Coleman scored six points. Latoya Terry and Adrienne Bradley scored two points each in the loss.

The 7th-grade boys also earned a lopsided win against Coppinville last Night.

The Bulldogs raced out to a 14-5 lead in the first quarter and held a 25-7 lead at the halftime intermission.

In the second half, the Bulldogs outscored Coppinville 26-13 for a 51-20 win in the season opener.

Nico Johnson paced the Bulldogs on offense with 20 points in the win.

Jamie Busch also reached double figures in scoring with 11 points in the win. Sean Cowan added eight points. Calvin Middleton hit for six points. Leslie James had four and C.J. Woods scored two points.

Coppinville's leading scorers were Brandon Tisdale and Brandan Hart with six points each.

The season continues for the 7th-grade AMS squads on Thursday, Nov. 13 when they travel to Enterprise for a rematch with Coppinville.

The AMS 8th-grade boys' and girls' teams play at a tournament in Enterprise beginning Tuesday, Nov. 4. Games are also slated for Thursday, Nov. 6 and Saturday, Nov. 8.
