Tipoff of the 2003-2004 LBW Community College basketball season is tonight. The Lady Saints begin the season with a game against Bishop State Community College (BSCC) at Seth Hammett Gymnasium on the campus of LBWCC. The game is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m.
The men's team is slated to take on its counterpart from BSCC at 7:30 p.m.
LBW Head Coach Ricky Knight said he has high hopes for both the women's and men's teams.
"We should be all right," Knight said. "We don't have any weaknesses."
He said the women are a little ahead of the men on one end of the court.
"Defensively, we (the women's team) ought to be real strong," Knight said. "The men will have to work hard on the defensive end."
Knight said the key to the season will be how the players gel on the court during the season.
He said BSCC will be a good test for the Saints in the season opener.
"I think we should have real good men's and women's basketball teams if we come together on the court and play as a team," Knight said. "Bishop State is our first test."
The men's team has two returning starters while the women do not have a returning starter.
"The women's team is all freshmen," Knight said. "So, as the year goes on, I think we'll get better."
The women also have games slated for Nov. 6 in Selma and Nov. 8 in Wadley. The men also play Nov. 8 in Wadley.
