Andalusia youth football teams complete season

The Andalusia Termite 9- and 10-year-old football team was victorious Saturday for the second consecutive year in winning the Super Bowl. The coaches leading the team were Marcus Jones, Sammy Mahaffey and Wayne King.

The Super Bowl was played at Red Level on Saturday, Nov. 1 with Andalusia defeating Red Level by the score of 12-0 in the Western Division Championship. Andalusia went on to defeat Florala 20-14 to capture the league championship in the Termite division.

Both the Red Level and Florala teams played very well. The Florala team scored a late touchdown with six seconds remaining in the game. Andalusia fumbled on the first play of their next possession.

Florala recovered with three seconds to play. A timeout was called by Andalusia, and the starting defense went back into the game.

Andalusia's Johnny Jones stopped Florala's Vickers for a 10-yard loss to end the game.

The Termites outscored their preseason and regular season opponents by a combined score of 242-14, including wins against Baker, Fla., East Brewton, Red Level, Florala, Opp and Straughn with Andalusia playing East Brewton and Baker twice.

Members on the 2003 Termite Football team are Jahkelus Mathews, Terrence Anderson, Derrick King, Tyler Raines, Stewart Studstill, Quincy Thomas, Joseph Flowers, Catlin Jones, Jacard Marshall, Lemadrick Macon, Tevin James, Victor Benson, Sherman Denson, Perry Samual, Johnnie Jones, Jerome Mathews, Omar Feagin, C.P. Rogers, Theodore Taylor, Nathan Brawner, Keontae Sims, Austin Davis, David Mahaffey and Lexius Bradley.

The 2003 Termite cheerleaders are Courtney Tisdale, Jamie Till, Morgan Palmer, Candace Cravey, Emilee Stringfellow, Kaley McDonald, Penny White, Keona Hunter, Tamera Marvin, Nikki Curry, Shi Amber Townsend, Asia Gantt, Iesha Parker, Brittany Raines and Elizabeth Vigor.

TINY MITES ADVANCE TO SEMI-FINALS

The Andalusia Tiny Mite Football Team had a successful season under first-year Head Coach Dodd Riley and assistant coaches Tinker Sirmon and Brian Cross.

The Tiny Mites lost one regular season game against Baker, Fla. by the score of 12-6. The Andalusia 6- to 8-year-old Tiny Mites had wins against East Brewton, Red Level, Florala, Opp and Straughn.

The Tiny Mites played Opp in the Super Bowl semifinal game and lost by a score of 12-0. Two fourth quarter fumbles by the Bulldogs proved to be the difference with both fumbles occurring deep within their own territory. Opp scored touchdowns on both turnovers. Opp had no turnovers and played an excellent game.
