Coach Varnadoe wins in debut

It wasn't pretty, but first-year Pleasant Home Head Basketball Coach Shane Varnadoe won his first game ever as coach of the Eagles last night.

Pleasant Home earned an 81-68 win against Kinston in the home opener to the 2003-04 season.

The Eagles were on top 13-12 after one quarter of play. Pleasant Home held a 40-35 lead at the half despite committing 15 personal fouls in the first half.

The Kinston Bulldogs rallied in the third quarter and tied the score at 55-55 going into the final period.

The Eagles outscored Kinston 26-13 in the final quarter for the win.

Nathaniel Blount was the leading scorer for the Eagles with 21 points. Devin Spivey had 20 points in the win and ran the offense from his point guard position.

Issac Edgar hit a few big three-pointers and ended the game with 19 points. Chris Little added 12 points. Daniel Clark and Brad Sanders also scored.

LADY EAGLES WIN

The Pleasant Home Lady Eagles won the first game of the season by outscoring the Kinston Lady Bulldogs 36-25.

Pleasant Home went on top 17-13 at the half after trailing 7-3 at the end of the first quarter.

In the second half, the Lady Eagles came out shooting and were on top 30-18 going into the fourth quarter.

The Lady Eagles coasted to a 36-25 win.

Beth Cox scored 10 points in the win. Amy Jacobs added nine points. Leah Turman, Kimberly Jacobs and Carly Lundy also scored.

B-TEAM EAGLES FALL

The B-team Kinston Bulldogs topped Pleasant Home 37-22 last night.

Avry King and Cameron Page paced the Eagles with five points each.

Bob Ballard, Derrick Taylor, Josh Douglass and Andrew Nichols also scored.
