AMS 7th-graders remain perfect

The Straughn Junior High School 7th-grade boys' basketball team is undefeated after four games. The Tigers defeated Opp 28-10 to start the season. Quentin Clayborne paced the Tigers with 7 points. Trey Bowen added 6. Ryne Taylor scored 5.
The Tigers' next game resulted in a 48-20 victory against Fleeta. Taylor had 15 in the win. Clayborne added 8 and Tyler Yelverton scored 7.
The Tigers topped Opp a second time by a score of 21-18 to improve to 3-0 on the season. Clayborne was the leading scorer for Straughn with 7 points. Spencer Wade had 8 for Opp.
The Tigers played Florala on Monday and won by a score of 33-19 to improve to 4-0. Bowen scored 9 points. Clayborne had 8. Vickers paced Florala with 8.
In girls' action, the Opp Middle School Lady Bobcats have two wins against Straughn.
Opp won the first game 40-6 allowing all six points in the first quarter before shutting down the opposition. Kiara Henderson had 14 points for Opp and Sharea Stephens had 10.
Opp won the second meeting by a score of 36-11. Henderson had 14 points in the win.
Fleeta also has a win against the Lady Tigers via a 29-27 win on Oct. 30. Kervin had 9 points for Fleeta. Hickman added 7.
The Lady Tigers rebounded with a win in the most recent game, outscoring Florala 34-31 on Monday. Lacey Merrill had 12 points. Andrea Sport added 11. Angelica White hit for 8 points.
The Straughn 8th-grade boys are 2-2 on the season.
The 2003 season began with a 29-20 loss to Opp. Donald Jones and Albert Wilson each scored 10 points for Opp.
Straughn topped Fleeta in the second game of the season by a count of 42-20. Josh Dozier had 9 points. Trent Driver scored 8. Seth Kinsaul scored 7 points.
The Straughn 8th-grade boys defeated Opp 32-26 earlier this season. Trenton Driver had 10 points to lead the way. Josh Dozier and Von Clayborn had 8 points each. Trevor Driver had 4 points. Trent Bonham had 2 points. Donald Jones had 9 points for Opp and Mark Linton added 7. Albert Wilson scored 6 points.
Florala topped Straughn's 8th-grade boys 48-41. Carson scored 25 points for Florala. Gundrum added 8 points. Bass hit for 7. McLaughlin had 6 and Mulkey had 1. Trenton Driver had 19 for Straughn. Trevor Driver scored 10 in the loss.
