Freshmen sweep Brantley

Freshmen rule? The Andalusia High School 9th-grade basketball team earned wins against the Brantley Bulldogs Thursday and again last night.

In the first game, Andalusia earned a 45-33 victory. De'Andre Wright had 16 points to led all scorers. Justin Sims added 13 points for Andalusia. Marquaus Byrd had 10 points. Jeremy Ferrell had 4 and Shawn Feagin scored 2 points.

Kevin Pitts paced Brantley with 15 points.

In the second game, the Andalusia Bulldogs won 45-23 last night. Sims had 17 points. Byrd added 13. Wright had 6. Garrett Berry hit for 5. Ferrell and Feagin had 2 each.

In other hoops action, the Andalusia varsity girls' team started the season with a win Friday night in Enterprise.

The Lady Bulldogs earned a 55-51 overtime win against the Lady Wildcats by holding them scoreless in the overtime period.

Ashley Johnson led all scorers with 15 points in the win, including 2 in overtime. Tanesha Wright scored 14 points, including 3-of-4 free throws in the overtime period.

Ann Huff added 10 points. Apri Kilgore just missed double digits in scoring with 9. Kathy Crittenden, Jermecia McNeil and Michelle Wells also scored.

The varsity boys from Andalusia did not fare as well in Enterprise.

The Wildcats topped the Bulldogs 61-33 with Dehoris Williams scoring 20 points.

Michael Cauley was the leading scorer for Andalusia with 9 points. Lance Evans and Brandon Wilson added 8 points each. Andre Wright, Josh Johnson and Chris Cotton also scored.

The B-team Bulldogs fell to Enterprise by a final score of 51-36.

Andrew McTyere had 20 points for the Bulldogs. Alex Taylor, Jacob Cauley, Charlie Baker, Tyler Centner and Cherno Bah also scored.

The B-team, varsity girls and varsity boys play tonight in Monroeville. The B-team game against Monroe County tips off at 5 p.m.
