AMS sweeps Opp in hoops

The Andalusia Middle School basketball teams earned a clean sweep against the visiting Opp Middle School Bobcats on Thursday.

AMS had two exciting wins with the Lady Bulldogs earning a 30-29 win with no time left on the clock. The win keeps AMS undefeated on the season and handed Opp its first loss.

Blanche Alverson hit a three-point basket at the buzzer to knot the score at 29-29. Alverson was fouled on the play and went to the free-throw line and buried her attempt to win the game.

Alverson ended the game with 13 points. Also scoring for AMS were Ebony Heard, Anna Henderson, Holley Bass and Jasmine Kelly.

Kiara Henderson scored 14 points for the Lady Bobcats. Adriane Ellison, Sharece Stephens and Joi Rhymes also scored for Opp.

The AMS 8th-grade boys also got an exciting win battling back to earn a 30-28 win.

Bilyon Jones hit a jumper with three seconds left in regulation to give the Bulldogs a 30-28 lead. Opp called a timeout with one second left, but failed to advance the ball past midcourt on the inbounds play. The ball went out of bounds off an Opp player as the Bulldogs held on for a 30-28 win.

The game-winning basket was Jones' only bucket of the night.

Michael Berry paced the Bulldogs with 21 points. Martin Watson and Sean Cowan also scored for Opp.

Mark Linton and Donald Jones had 8 points each for Opp. Cody Hall, Tim Donladson, Albert Wilson and Matt Rees also scored for Opp.

In the 7th-grade boys' game, the Bulldogs won big outscoring Opp 57-18.

C.J. Woods was the leading scorer with 12 points. Jamie Busch added 10. Also scoring for AMS were Jametrelle Lacey, Kevin Anderson, Andrew Veasey, Jakim Felton, Tushun Culp, Brandon Sims, James Mo, Leslie James, C.J. Woods and Calvin Middleton.

Spencer Youmans paced Opp with 6 points. Spencer Wade, Will Sherwood, Colby Wyatt and Luke Smith also scored for Opp.

The AMS squads also earned a clean sweep against Elba on Tuesday.

The 7th-grade Bulldogs topped Elba 37-22. Sean Cowan and Nico Johnson scored 9 points each in the win.

The Lady Bulldogs topped Elba 48-17 with Holley Bass scoring 10 points.

The 8th-grade boys from AMS whipped Elba 42-22. Bilyon Jones and Michael Berry had 10 points.
